Lets talk about Monoe...
It really seems like Monoe plays a big role in this game.

I'm not very good at expressing my thought but I will give this a shot.

I believe that Monoe could very well be an older version of Madotsuki.
She looks awfully similar and even more so in terms of dress style, and it seems weird that both her and Madotsuki cry at the end of the school level.
An interesting thing to note is that Monoe runs away, cries, and even has an eerie image of her taken while shes hiding her face. This could relate to a kidnapping/abuse type of theme, as kidnappers tend to enjoy showing off their victims, thus the uncomfortable image may be a way of a kidnapper showing off.
Generally abuse vicitims are very reserved and are not people who open up and trust easily, so it makes sense that Monoe would run off.
Also note the achievement name... "Deep Dream", what could this mean? Are we talking about deep in the sense of mature adult topics or deep in the... other... sense?? (alluding to sexual acts here).

Maybe I'm just crazy, but I really do think I could be on to something here...

Also Monoe qt <3

The "Deep Dream" achievement description also is "Too young for this". And the dream ends with Madotsuki finding Monoe near a phallic-like creature making fast and loud noises.

If I had to guess, is not something that happened to Madotsuki but rather something she witnessed. She saw Monoe getting molested. Either by a teacher or by other student. (The puzzle on the school level consists on finding pieces of a ripped photography of Monoe, in this photo we can see that Monoe wasn't aware that she was being photographed, meaning that she was being stalked by somebody)

This can also be speculated by how after clearing the section you can find the famous FACE/King Red event, and it's represented on the dream diary as a very sinister looking door. The door Madotsuki inadvertedly opened without knowing what was on the other side.
KyuuKyuu-kun moving faster could represent how the aggressor had to act quick now that there was a witness.

That's a good way to view it. That would also explain why Madotsuki gets distressed after encountering KyuuKyuu-kun for the first time.

Also the zipper. In the original, this appeared at random as a slighty different wall, and requiered a knife to be accessed. (Possibly representing knife-point sexual assault)
In this game, the zipper is now also made out of flesh, making the carnal abuse more evident, possibly representing the hymen. (Although the zipper is textured after dry skin rather than inner skin)

Another interpretation (although is not very solid), the "too young for this" part could also be a reference to death. Monoe's sister (Monoko) has died recently (and this remake makes it more than clear by giving her blue floating flames around her, in the Japanese culture used to represent ghost and spirits) and she was very affected by that.
However, I can't see how this it's related to everything else in the level. :dopey:

While I'm not a friend of the more "controversial" theories, there is one interesting theme I noticed with Monoe: In both the original and YNDD, she tries to get away from Madotsuki. Now that is a concrete base for theories in my book.

But if I may throw a garbagefreudian explanation out there to see if it sticks, how about this:
Back in school, Madotsuki saw Monoe as her "senpai", and stalked and annoyed her to no end while being oblivious to her feelings. One day, she caught Monoe inflagranti in a staircase with a dildo. Not knowing much about how sex works yet, Madotsuki felt very disturbed by what she saw and kept being haunted by the image in her dreams.

These are some good theories.. never would have taken much thought to the first one. I think we can all agree that it was some sort of assault

I guess you could also add the weird filters into the mix, everytime Monoe yells at you or un her fullscreen event there's a lot of chromatic aberration, bad vertical sync, etc.

My theory of this is that when Monoko died, Monoe was vulnerable and somebody took advantage of her. She may have consented to have sex, but this person was recording the intercourse in secret. And leaked the video to everybody in school, which brought public humilliation to Monoe.

I NEVER EVEN WOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THIS ^^^^^
What's the deal with Monokos death? Is this also a theory? Never heard of it until now.

Yes, in the original Monoko can be speculated to be death since by using the stoplight effect on her, she changes to a weird-looking form; 4 arms (which may represent her broken bones coming out of her skin), a fifth hand coming out of her head (possibly representing blood or even her brain coming out of the skull), from her eye and her mouth some sort of liquid is coming out (probably blood) and a huge hole in her belly. All this being caused by the stoplight effect would suggest that Monoko died after being hit by a car.

In this game, however, it's more obvious that Monoko is supposed to be dead (because of the blue flames used in Japan to represent death and spririts), however, it may be implicit throught the level that Monoko was ridding on a bike when the accident happened. You can see a small shrine with a bicycle on it, and there are many 'no tresspass' lines around the latter part of the level, in one of them, there's a bike.

Didn't catch on to that.. I noticed it for sure but I never thought much of it.
