Was Madotsuki raped?!?
I get the feeling from this due to the game world, the hospital like backgrounds and the constant fact she is being chased

I'm going to assume you mean the R word, because Steam censors.

Interestingly, this was one theory in the original Yume Nikki, with supporting evidence being the NPC KyuuKyuu-Kun and the FACE event. I wouldn't doubt that Madotsuki was some sort of victim.

The game also took a different direction with some of the NPCs. Monoe was originally a hidden NPC who was part of one of the few full-screen events in YN. It's unknown what she was doing in the White Desert, but interacting with her will cause her to give Mado a mysterious smile before she teleports to a different area.

In Dream Diary, Monoe was the crying girl at the school. Part of the trade quest involves performing a kind deed for Monoe. Eventually, Monoe will be seen next to KyuuKyuu-Kun. What I found interesting about this event was that Madotsuki herself broke down crying...

I never was a fan of the r*pe theory to be honest. But it seem that's what this game was heavily wanting to imply. Even the achievement when you encounter Kyuukyuu-kun an Monoe has the description "You're too young for this".

That, and if you read the description of Monoe's photo, it describes her as a girl who doesn't know she's being photographed, implying she was being stalked perhaps.

Honestly, I think Monoe and Monoko should have swapped roles for this game. Monoe's thing in the OG was to have that wicked smirk before disappearing to another random part of the darkness in the area she was in. Monoko is kinda doing that in her secret area with the beds. And in the school, the girl is crying all the time, which Monoko is kinda doing in her abstract form. Imagine if she got scared by Kyuukyuu-kun and fell down the stairs, leading to her abstract appearance... I think that would have been better.

I mean, they even had to edit Monoe's smirk into a crying face to make it work, which changed her a bit much in my opinion.

That's literally the oldest theory there is about this game. But there is no concrete evidence for it.

Personally, I think Madotsuki's dreams are just abstract representations of her fears about the real world: In her mind, the world is a desolate, confusing and often scary place, full of strange beings that ignore her at best or try to harm her at worst.

I personally believe that Kyuukyuu-kun represents past sexual trauma that Madotsuki endured. (In the original game, after you encounter him, she is forced to wake up.) The rubbing motion that he makes on the railing is very suggestive, which I think is supposed to suggest/imply sexual assault.

I also think that, in this game, it's implied that Kyuukyuu-kun, whoever he was in the real world, also assaulted Monoe. (She runs to him, crying, the rubbing motions become more intense, and Madotsuki becomes visably distraught, which forces her to wake up.) Because Monoe actually runs towards Kyuukyuu-kun and not away from him, I think it means that whoever it was was someone very close to the girls IRL, someone that they trusted...someone who manipulated their emotions.

Keep in mind, Yume Nikki and this game are open to interpretation, and what really happened and what Kyuukyuu-kun represents is really up to the player at the end of the day. :)

While there is no denying that Kyuukyuu-kun is phalically shaped, he is also the least threatening creature in this game. He never does anything that resembles assault of any kind. All he does is rub that railing. And in the original game, what caused him to rub faster was Madotsuki approaching him with her knife equipped.
FACE is as threatening as it gets, but he is in the room behind Kyuukyuu-kun's staircase. They are not the same entity.

Also, consider this: What is Monoe running from?

if madotsuki accidentally caught the two in the act, consensual, that could also be traumatic. And yeah, maybe monoe was running from madotsuki. then who took the photo...?

Matsudoki's guilty and sorrow for a tragic event that happened to her friend Monoe inside a certain bathroom in the Red School, guess which bathroom? Guess what happened? Guess why the photo is a problem? Guess why there is a model of Matsudoki hiding at the room next to the bathroom if the player visit the same spot at the nightmare side of the Red School? Guess why she was hearing the "rubbing" noise? Guess why that bathroom is the only room with a heavier darker tone of the stage music? Guess why the Zipper is a door? Or why she has the nightmare conclusion that awakens her by force? Or even, why you can stab the Zipper? The self-defense Achievement? Yeah, it is very easy to connect all the dots and clues,

No, beyond the naive free narrative of meaningless "dreams interpretation", because IT IS NOT MEANINGLESSNESS! :sora: Now she literelly has PTSD because of what she witnessed in that bathroom, besides her friend having committed suicide due to the public shame she was afraid to face. :nath: It is so frightening and clear, that some times I would dare to say it was a real event and the game is a statement or confession of a crime that occurred somewhere in a Japanese school.
