Interestingly, this was one theory in the original Yume Nikki, with supporting evidence being the NPC KyuuKyuu-Kun and the FACE event. I wouldn't doubt that Madotsuki was some sort of victim.
The game also took a different direction with some of the NPCs. Monoe was originally a hidden NPC who was part of one of the few full-screen events in YN. It's unknown what she was doing in the White Desert, but interacting with her will cause her to give Mado a mysterious smile before she teleports to a different area.
In Dream Diary, Monoe was the crying girl at the school. Part of the trade quest involves performing a kind deed for Monoe. Eventually, Monoe will be seen next to KyuuKyuu-Kun. What I found interesting about this event was that Madotsuki herself broke down crying...
That, and if you read the description of Monoe's photo, it describes her as a girl who doesn't know she's being photographed, implying she was being stalked perhaps.
Honestly, I think Monoe and Monoko should have swapped roles for this game. Monoe's thing in the OG was to have that wicked smirk before disappearing to another random part of the darkness in the area she was in. Monoko is kinda doing that in her secret area with the beds. And in the school, the girl is crying all the time, which Monoko is kinda doing in her abstract form. Imagine if she got scared by Kyuukyuu-kun and fell down the stairs, leading to her abstract appearance... I think that would have been better.
I mean, they even had to edit Monoe's smirk into a crying face to make it work, which changed her a bit much in my opinion.
Personally, I think Madotsuki's dreams are just abstract representations of her fears about the real world: In her mind, the world is a desolate, confusing and often scary place, full of strange beings that ignore her at best or try to harm her at worst.
I also think that, in this game, it's implied that Kyuukyuu-kun, whoever he was in the real world, also assaulted Monoe. (She runs to him, crying, the rubbing motions become more intense, and Madotsuki becomes visably distraught, which forces her to wake up.) Because Monoe actually runs towards Kyuukyuu-kun and not away from him, I think it means that whoever it was was someone very close to the girls IRL, someone that they trusted...someone who manipulated their emotions.
Keep in mind, Yume Nikki and this game are open to interpretation, and what really happened and what Kyuukyuu-kun represents is really up to the player at the end of the day. :)
FACE is as threatening as it gets, but he is in the room behind Kyuukyuu-kun's staircase. They are not the same entity.
Also, consider this: What is Monoe running from?
Matsudoki's guilty and sorrow for a tragic event that happened to her friend Monoe inside a certain bathroom in the Red School, guess which bathroom? Guess what happened? Guess why the photo is a problem? Guess why there is a model of Matsudoki hiding at the room next to the bathroom if the player visit the same spot at the nightmare side of the Red School? Guess why she was hearing the "rubbing" noise? Guess why that bathroom is the only room with a heavier darker tone of the stage music? Guess why the Zipper is a door? Or why she has the nightmare conclusion that awakens her by force? Or even, why you can stab the Zipper? The self-defense Achievement? Yeah, it is very easy to connect all the dots and clues,
No, beyond the naive free narrative of meaningless "dreams interpretation", because IT IS NOT MEANINGLESSNESS!
