that's my current bet, except combine that with having only 8 months of development time so it's really broken and unrefined too.
Ye forgot to add thats it only has 8 months development time. Edit: The Trailer's are ♥♥♥♥
Since the [Re-Imagine] video, I am really, really worried... But who knows...
What I would like to see is less of a game, more of an experience... Like the old one. Because it was about walking around, exploration, collecting effects, use them at the right place. It was just right and all the topics, themes, visuals made the game unique.
So can Yume Nikki work in 3D? Absolutely! Having a third dimension can produce really cool, twisted worlds. Especially special mind blowing tricks 3D can produce with crazy shaders and stuff.
Sounds, music. They were so minimalistic and recognizable in the old game. Do we need more? Well, I am fine with environmental sounds, that build some atmosphere. I did like the short 5-10 second music loops in the original one. They worked. They were kinda hypnotizing. Weird.
In 3D, I think having not looping worlds is fine. But they should be interesting with some details, and landmarks that make you wonder what is that, why is there. It's about dreams, things can be completely out of place. Like in the old game.
There is that EDuke 32 based Yume Nikki 3D fan game. Not perfect, and there are things that feels off, but it's close to the original, it's 3D and it's interesting.
I don't expect AAA graphics from this. Based on what they released, it will definitely not AAA and that's 100% fine and expected. It doesn't need realistic look. Not at all. Some places can be inspired from real world, some should be bizarre, surrealistic, and should make no sense. The possibilities for 3D dream worlds are infinite. And they can be so interesting. Unique. Special.
I am really worried from what I've seen. The screenshots made me super hype! The latest trailer was... really disappointing.
Maybe I would be happier if it was an original game with new characters, story and places? Like heavily inspired by Yume Nikki in term of gameplay style, but something new? So they can't ruin it? Idk...
We'll see soon... Fans can make awesome fan games, because they understand the original game.
i think you took too many hits to the head yourself if you think i'm not using it in the correct context my dude
In other words, the actual definition, not "Some obese blue-haired 'woman' threw a tantrum over it' which is a "cuntroversy".
anything that sparks debate is controversial, having something "easily digestible" means it's very clear cut and safe in order to avoid misinterpretations and possible frustration. the way they're using it in the context i've quoted was in a negative context—something they deem inferior as a juxtaposition to what this current game will be like. this can range from the gameplay to how the story itself is presented, and is insanely detrimental to the aesthetic of yume nikki.
...unless "by contrast" doesn't mean what they think it means, which might actually be the case considering how poorly it's worded. in which case you should beat them over the head with a dictionary instead
Are... Are you really using a nostalgia arguement against a remake? No kidding it's banking on nostalgia, that's why remakes are made. As far as unity lighting, I have to agree it doesn't look the best, but considering the original was made in rpgmaker and how this has had a short development cycle, I'm not gunna complain about it.
if a remakes only selling point is that it reminds you of another better game, it's probably not a very good remake
