If your PC is running hot, set a lower FPS cap, otherwise the game will try and render as many frames as it can (using resources and making your PC work harder).
Put a frame-cap on. It is something that every PC enthusiast with a gaming rig should be doing.
It's also very applicable to the OP's post too and a couple other ones.
I'm not saying the game was poorly optimized for rendering, but this is early access and these sorts of improvements can be expected.
The second thing I've noticed is the bugs (yes, that's what I would call them and I believe that's what they are addressed as in "Fixes" in the update notes) that clearly fixes the longer run processing to not create broken runs that turn into slideshows depending on certain perk/mod interactions.
