The enemy spawn rng is INSANE
Some islands, even in the volcano, you can get like 3 skulls and 1 elite crab, and sometimes you can get NO LITTLE CRABS, NO SLUGS, ONLY SKULLS AND ELITE CRABS. WHY???? WHY IS IT SO RANDOM AND STUPID??? I've lost COUNTLESS runs to just getting destroyed by a horrible wave of big enemies. I'm a fan of making things ridiculously hard but good god man, not in a game where my damage is rng dependent. Not in a game where my survivability is rng dependent. Like what percent of this game's skill is just gambling? Because I would bet my entire life that it's more than anything else you can learn in this game. Dodging is not as important as getting max health and shields, it never ever ever will be as long as all the items stay the same and all the health scaling stays the same. It's just insane. How do you dodge 50 giant tracking projectiles from 50 different enemies that don't f#@king die because of their awful health scaling, for as long as 5 f#@king minutes because of how little damage I'm doing.

You should see the wild rng happening on True Ultra Chaos where today I had 3 King Ants (Bosses) spawn on Island 12 lol

is dodging a thing, as in avoiding damage? enemies on nightmare are already so fast, if you stop for a second they just kill you. elites dish out insane damage and are super spongey on top, plus they are often pretty fast too. they tank so many direct hits and if you change direction for a second to dodge some super fast snail explodes you from behind. normal is too easy but nightmare is impossible without insane rng
Exactly my thoughts. It doesn't feel good to get an awesome rng slot machine run. It just feels like I'm getting my dopamine receptors forcibly stimulated. I want to be able to just win based off of my movement and aiming, but you do so nothing damage on the majority of runs. Also I just gotta put it out there, all of the damage upgrades are awful. They give the tiniest percents for pretty bad downsides. Like why do spiral shots and snake shots and all the shots that mess with your projectiles even need to exist? Why does there need to be a downside? I NEED the damage upgrade, which isn't even remotely helpful to my numbers, and it just makes shooting harder. Why? What is the thought process? Why do these exist??? All of my good damage just comes from spawns on shots anyways, bubbles, mace balls, thorns, everything destroys the regular projectiles in damage. I can not fathom why the damage calculation is like this. It's genuinely infuriating.

There's Ring of Repulsion, it allows you to avoid projectile damage if you do a frame perfect dodge. Helps a lot. Other than that, yes, dodging is very much a thing. You can dodge nearly all projectiles in the game easily. Their hitboxes right now are working at nearly 100% intended capacity, with only a few minor bugs to be fixed in the future

Also, your melee attacks sometimes destroy projectiles or send them back, like a lightning crab's lightning ball attack can be repelled by your Claw melee to be sent back to him, doing some damage

If you have dagger/claw, try meleeing 24/7, you will be taking a lot less damage, but you can still get bitten by melee enemies

And just stay away, fly away from exploding enemies, that's all. Speed Demon/Stamina will help you with that a lot

RNG can be insane, specially as the game seems to make waves harder if you get lucky rolls 2-3 times in a row. Nothing like having an island full of elites on island 4.
This is an issue ive had for a bit but Ive been trying to figure out a solution that doesnt make the game too easy. There are definitely some combinations that even happen on just basic nightmare level that will just end runs, like multi poison crabs+multi snipers+multi fire skulls or chaos grub that on a pre-loop level can be way too much way too fast, but really its only certain combos that are the problem.
