I highly suggest Grip Tape
LS has huge spread which you can negate by aiming. But aiming reduces your movement speed which is ALREADY reduced with firing LS continuously
So just build Grip Tape to maximize damage output on a singular target if that's what you want (not AOE)
Other than that, best Shots are Firework, Bubble, Thorn from Epic rarity
To that effect, fast shot does SOMEWHAT actually lower your damage, because each projectile impacts or passes by enemies in less time, so less damage ticks. Big shot has the opposite effect...more damage due to longer time passing by, but reduced range on an already short range item is rough.
Bouncing is good, I've heard, but not tried, that heavy shot feels quite nice on it.
I'd imagine that while thorn and firework might work, as a multi-projectile weapon, you'll want the "on shot impact" mods, like bubble, link, spark, drill, etc.
Boomerang might not have much of a boomerang effect, but the returning property on boomerang was always meant to be it's DOWNSIDE. Complaining that boomerang shot doesn't make the shot return is like complaining that burst pistol doesn't get recoil from recoil shot.
Anything to extend your firing time and minimize reload time means more airtime....ring of reloading is enough that a single dash will keep you level during a reload, but there's also ammo ring, all you can eat, juiced, and, unusually, Efficiency as strong picks for lightning staff.
Lightning staff also does very respectable damage as a baseline, even melting elites if you can actually survive sustained fire from close range....so bulletproof or the ring that gives 25% chance to avoid damage can be nice for those situations where you stay in sight too long. If NOT playing with the Eternal Punishment modifier, building health and healing is a consistently strong build that feels even more relevant on a high-risk weapon like the lightning staff.
Since it has pierce and bounce built in it's very good to have scatter shot, and of course all the other projectile increasing mods.
Gunna go out on a limb and say I actually really like how it works with snake shot, too.
It also seems like Recoil shot doesn't have a downside for it, unless it just takes more than the +60% fire rate that I have gotten up to to matter.
