And as you play, you will learn which totems you should always take when you see them, and which to use occasionally. Like the one with a light white-peach skull is a free item for minimal health% loss, the one with a fuse should be used ASAP, the glass one should be used before you start fighting so it doesn't break, etc...
Fuse totems are easy to tell though, they've got a totally different structure to other totems making them discernible and easy to tell apart, so you can totally do them from behind. Just make sure it's not a golden totem in case you don't want one
I don't see why confirmation is necessary
I have almost 500 hours in and I don't think I've ever once mislicked a random totem whether in the shop or on an island with the EXCEPTION of back in the day when Random Totem looked literally like the Crystal totem, so before reading the description, I might have clicked, but never after the totem rework
