True Nightmare is probably in the best spot its been in for a very long time. Rocket Launcher is more powerful than its been in the last year and half, I wouldnt put it down just yet, but you do have to be a little more accurate with it as it has splash damage falloff. Minigun is still the strongest weapon in the game I think, I would give it another try if youre still struggling!
The game feels a lot different now, so it might take some time to get a feel for it. Ive been playing pretty consistently and even I, after this latest patch, took several days before I found the rhythm again
Im not saying all this to put you down by the way. I just wholely and heartily disagree that Noisestorm is ruining this game. I think its flourishing. Its really starting to become the strong Roguelike it deserves to be.
I hope your runs start going better for you, friend. best of luck
Minigun is a god tier weapon because of how many things work on it. Maybe you are doing something wrong? It's supposed to work even on "Diamond" tier (TNM). Maybe you got bad upgrades. After all, this is an RNG game but then again, you can't just epicly fail every single time early game anyway. Try to do more runs. Use your grenade and melee on cooldown. I suggest you use Ice Grenade (the best one) to just freeze them all and either Hammer or Pickaxe as melee to create extra airtime allowing you to dodge enemy attacks a bit more
Lightning crabs are nasty but they actually now are weaker than they were last 2 big updates. They don't fire as many projectiles and their projectile speed is slower allowing you to react better. Just stay away from them, and react to their attacks, and just dodge
I think the way I try and build just isnt working and thats whats mostly frustrating about the whole thing, like I said Im still gonna play. This is one of the few single player games I actually enjoy even with the madness.
Funnily enough...Its when im in the air USING my hammer is where Im noticing Im dying alot at. Cause it doesnt provide immunity...Might just have to run the main meta again for a bit to figure everything out again.
And what is your "main meta", I'm afraid to ask? Cuz Hammer is meta. It's literally one of the strongest weapons available out of all the melees/grenades or ranged weapons. Just draw Blender, and start improving it. Before you know it, you will be flying all over the map, almost never landing on the ground. It's crazy good, basically overpowered. Being airborne DOES protect you from many enemy attacks if you are playing on True Nightmare (In Ultra Chaos crabs tend to jump after you)
Again you didn't specify what you actually die to. Ice Islands? So what, you struggle with blocker crabs or smth? I think those ones spawn a lot in that biome. Just stay away from them, they will try to catch you off guard unlike regular crabs. Is it the Icy Slugs that explode with AOE that you die to?
And I dont have a 'main meta', I meant the meta everyone else is using to be able to beat things again. I dont play on True Nightmare, just Nightmare with a bunch of mods on to get to base Ruby right now. Hence why Im even more frustrated that Im dying, cause Im not even running the hardest difficulty right now.
I also run 90% of my runs holding Shift+Spamming the space bar.
Also, pressing Aim button while jumping will allow you to dash an extra time regardless of "Stamina" perk so keep that in mind too
Slide - Hammer - Dash, possibly Aim+Dash again
or Slide - Dash - Hammer - Aim+Dash
Try to maximize air time as many of these crabs cannot reach you in the air
If you were to find Ring (Relic) Of Low Gravity, just pick it up and see for yourself. You'll be surprised how few enemies can even deal with you when you are flying around
Also, look out for jump boosters. Memorize them all. Being in the air is GOOD
You can boost your jump booster even further by sliding into it and then holding jump button. If you do it very well, you will get enormous jump, much higher than your regular jump without using this technique
So learn how to do this thing almost every single time, keep aiming in mid air to get the extra dash for air time
Once you do learn all these cool strats, TNM shouldnt be that hard for you. It's the only "Real" difficulty in the game imo. Anything less is just weird and Ultra Chaos is, basically, designed to be unfair so TNM it is
People jump in and go on about how the game is easy if you just learn how to do X,Y, and Z, and how anything under their super special ultra favorite difficulty just doesn't matter/count...
No wonder these forums are just the same tired voices going around in circles...
Also, I never said the game is "easy" or anything
Also, it's not me who says something doesn't "count" - it's literally Noisestorm, he is the one who designed the system to give you highest rank of Diamond only for those who clear Loop1 on True Nightmare. If you only get rubies, those aren't diamonds. You won't get all the achievements or skins, for what they're worth.
Calm down
