True Nightmare Broken Today 18th Oct 2024?
I have 620 hours in this game and all achievements completed (ya for me hehe) but this morning the game appears broken. The first few levels of True Nightmare are usually a nice gentle start - but today Lightning slugs a plenty, ramming grubs, fire skulls... and then on my second run on island 2 a hoard run where I looked up at the timer ( after I had survived for 30 seconds or so) to see I still had 50 seconds to survive.

I know RNG but no one it that unlucky...

I still love the game and will play again after posting this :-)

1) those are normal things in true nightmare. Island 1 can and regularly does spawn lightning slugs and grubs, and can rarely spawn poison skulls. I don't recall ever seeing fire skulls island 1, but they're in the same league as poison skulls. They can all definitely show up in the first 4 islands though.

2) Sounds like you hit an XL totem for the horde. XL totems triple the number of normal enemies in normal (arena) levels, but in horde levels, an XL totem triples the time you have to survive for instead.

It sounds like you've not played much since the new update, as both of the things you mentioned are fairly normal for the game post-update, which, to be fair, did increase the difficulty for a number of enemies. For your post, the most notable ones would be grubs and ants, which show up often early on and are both significantly more dangerous (grubs got their ram ability and have little to no cooldown between their hits, which can result in very fast deaths if you get trapped, and ants no longer have a sound/animation before they attack...it is now during their attack, so if you hear them, they've already fired. They also can attack more frequently)

Yeah these are all features not bugs. Most could probably just be associated with the XL totem. I thought it was a fun addition to the game at first, but it disables spawn limits for all enemies and it triples time for horde levels which is beyond boring and a waste of time. Had one level reach 300 seconds because I did not know how the mechanic worked. Wish those totems got a rework because 30 pumpkins or chaotic grubs is annoying. Even more so on Ultra Chaos when 27 elites can spawn in or 6+ bosses on a regular level.
