This needs to go. if you want to come up with a sink for crystals think of something else, this isn't it.
If he wanted this system it should have a higher cost and be a permanent unlock.
The way it is currently is tedious and honestly just crap.
dudes ruined his game if that is the stance he's going to take because people play these games to get into a power fantasy and this works against that.
Either have all slots enabled from the get go or even flat out remove the slots so you cant even buy more than the "standard" ones
With how many greed perks, health, crystal perks, dmg, reload, elemental and so on, its simply not enough..
You are either forced to go all out on dmg, reload, fire rate, elemental and drop crystal perks, and never unlock any slots if you want to spend the money in shop.
Or you choose to pick crystal perks instead just to unlock the extra slots and kinda being forced to drop other more useful perks, such as fire-rate, dmg and so on..
Sure, after a loop or two it doesnt matter, but on your first run this is either go hard on dmg and lack crystals or go hard on crystal and lack dmg severely
What I didn't like about it was how important +crystal items became, and they were taken over almost anything else for too long into the game. Noisestorm talked about some sort of middle ground of having half the slots unlocked and balancing the cost of the unlocks. To me that seems like the best option if done well.
tldr: picking the most cohesive perks with the ability to unlock more slots and really pump up damage and utility is fun, but not when economy perks are mandatory to get a run off the ground.
