If you don't get performance bonus or any other source of loot-based extra chests, and you tend not to do challenge islands, then the only extra chests you risk losing out on are the bonus health boss chest and the flawless chests.
It's a good greed perk for mediocre players (for worst greed perk, my money is on "increased player health but also increased enemy health"). If you're a good player who can regularly leverage those extra flawless chests or performance bonus, and can effortlessly defeat challenge islands, then it's value falls off....possibly to breaking even on chests, or perhaps even lower in some circumstances...due to losing 2 (or more) chests when the "no chests" procs, but still only gaining one chest when the extra chest procs. To actually get no benefit at all mathematically, you'd have to get two chests from EVERY island (2/3 chance to get 1 extra chest, 1/3 chance to lose both of the two chests you'd get....+2 chests, -2 chests every 3 islands)....which is doable, but not really all that common in a basic 30 island run.
Keep in mind that humans tend to fixate on the "bad" - so while getting a bonus chest is a "yay! i got another perk!", MISSING a bonus chest is "GODDA****! THIS THING KEEPS F***ING ME OVER AGAIN AND AGAIN!" If you want an accurate look, start writing down the chests gained and lost from the moment you get the perk.
Lastly, it was reported that Gold Dice incorrectly increases the chance of getting NO chest, rather than getting an extra chest, and the developer saw the report and responded that it will be fixed next patch.
At least you CAN play around the other greed perks that are almost death sentences.
- You only plan on looping once or not at all
- You don't get any other perks that increase treasure drops
- You only get ONE (1) instance of High Roller (stats actually get WORSE with levels)
- Preferably you get it as early as possible, say within the first two biomes
It can save a run in the early game but once you're properly geared up it turns into dead weight real fast. All you gotta do is keep it at level 1, and not raise it through any means
The payout should be insanely huge
Either way, there are PLENTY of absolutely useless greed perks out there like the 25% damage multiplier outgoing and incoming as well as others
and that's totally wrong. It is a very nice greed perk, one of the best, as a matter of fact. Will work wonders in your typical diamond rank single-loop run
