Death Screen "press any button" issue on controller

When I die and Im playing on an Xbox controller I still have to push a button on my keyboard. Only issue is Im playing on a HTPC where the keyboard might be 10ish feet away from me (yeah I know starving kids in Kenya, whatever), but this sounds like a big design flaw. Anyone else having this issue?

I had a similar problem. In addition to not accepting controller inputs, key presses from the keyboard did not work either and I have to use a mouse click to restart.
What I did as a fix for now: go to Steam's controller config for the game and bound R3 (pushing the right stick) to mouse click.

As a small update that might help pinpointing the issue: Since initially launching the game and having this problem, I now restarted the game multiple times and all buttons work for respawning.

I have had this same exact problem yesterday (9/20/2019) but was fixed after restarting the game. I know team17 support is on it, but I just wanted to raise the sample size a bit and let the dev know it's common, in case a patch hasn't been put out yet.

i can't because i die a lot and every time i have to get up and go to the pc press one button
i play on a tv in bigscreen mode far from the pc ><
