Penitence of the Bleeding Heart bug?

Doing a playthrough with penitence of the Bleeding Heart, and I'm noticing that upon killing an enemy, or even striking an object, I regain a sphere of health. I don't use a bile flask for this to happen, and I tried unequipping Molten heart of Boiling Blood to see if that was it, which had no effect. Am I missing something, or is my game bugging out on me? Kinda sucks being spoonfed a free sphere at random that I haven't earned, it takes away the whole challenge behind Bleeding Heart, which is the point, I feel.

Are you using Saeta Dolorosa? Usually it regains health, but in PoBH it regains health orbs.

I don't believe I've even found that prayer yet lol. Don't think that would be what causes this in any case because you'd have to activate the prayer, if it functions like the other ones. Think my game is just being weird about the PoBH health system.

All stuff you've got in previous walkthrough will stay with you in NG+. Prayers as well. This one you had to get from the tomb of dead lady.

Penitence of the Bleeding Heart actually makes NG+ easier than harder. Pick the -50% damage one for extra pain.
