Bleeding Heart

If you guys go into ng+ and choose the bleeding heart, dont upgrade your heals. its a trap, i did it 2 times. It just took away 2 of my flasks without any heal improvement. I assumed it would heal 2 orbs intantly after upgrade...

is there any way to activate another penitence? I chose 1 right after I started NG+ and abandoned it BEFORE i went to the first boss to try another one but there is no option for it. Did I just bork my savegame right away?

there is no way to duplicate a savegame. you should be able to change the penitence before you enter the next room to test it OR be able to duplicate the savegame. this sucks xD Now I am already bummed out and dont want to play it because I wanted to play it with a penitance.

I get upgrading flask sacrifices 1 flask in the process?

Do we get more life orbs though? This is the one picked. Might as well keep going. I like the challenge. Well, I would love to play the game now though, but alas, I'm having issues like everyone else at the moment.

Developer said that in Bleeding Heart, the upgraded Bile Flasks regenerate orbs faster.

Bleeding heart penitence makes the game harder at the beggining and in some cases and easier at others. for example if you have the life stealing prayer the first hit on an enemy heals an orb. if you are fighting someone in the air and he is hitting you but not knockbacking you then you are virtually unkillable as long as the prayer remains and you keep hitting the enemy.
Haven't tried the NG+ without the bleeding heart but i'm guessing it's harder, i don't know how much damage the enemies do since with the heart everyone did one orb of damage.

It's as you say. In the beginning it's balls because 3 hits = you're dead. Annoyance damage without Bleeding Heart becomes "You died" damage with Bleeding Heart.

But late game....it can in some ways be a blessing. No hit from anything does more than 1 orb, ever. So boss attacks in non-penance mode which might take half your life ends up doing vastly less damage on Bleeding Heart, relatively speaking. I think I'm up to 8 or 9 orbs now?

Bleeding Heart rewards learning the patterns and being patient. Do that and with Saeta Dolorosa damage isn't really an issue anymore, you barely need your Bile Flasks. However, if you're not patient or you simply don't know the fight and start panicking, Bleeding Heart can be a liability until you have enough health orbs to get your ♥♥♥♥ together.

You can earn more health orbs by either using a rosary bead or finding the lady who increases your health. Lady will increase your health orbs by 1 each time you find her.

As an added tip, for those on this penitence, go ahead and use items that decrease your defense. A single hit will never do more than 1 damage (one orb). So hearts like Heart of Oils, Heart of the Single Tone and Brilliant Heart of Dawn have their down-sides negated.

Additionally, learning how to use the spell Tiento to your Thorned Hairs well can save you quite a bit of trouble in some fights, particularly some end-game ones since you won't suffer knockback while under the effects of this spell.
