What's next after Quirce?

Disclaimer: I've been known to play this game wrong from the very beginning, so there is a very high possibility I'm just missing something.

So, I've come to beat Quirce on the Wall of Holy Prohibitions, unlocked the shortcut to the Convent, but now I know not how to progress further. I've done a few laps on the Archcathedral Rooftops, but I feel like I don't have anywhere else to go.

Currently, I've fetched all of the masks up to the Mirrored Mask of Dolphos at the Convent. The elevator has received all of the masks, and won't go higher. I've also received the three Marks of Refuge from the three Soldiers of the Anointed Legion at the rooftops.

I'm not sure where to go from there. I assume the Marks of Refuge must be of use somewhere, but so far I've not figured out where.

If you've found all three masks you should be able to ride the elevator all the way to the top now by pulling the lever a few more times.

The marks are used on that npc you potentially found that whips herself constantly on the bed. There's a priest guy next to her, she's found in the mother of mothers.
