Films and series similar to Blasphemous?

I'm looking for some films with the same aesthetics or religious themes as this game, so far I can't think of any. Recommendations anyone?

Dark Souls has similar aesthetics in my opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if DS inspired Blasphemous' developers!

Idk any. Blasphemous has pretty unique setting. You can just check films related to inquisition, but I don't think there was anything that much interesting. You can also check film "Alatriste" 2006. Not religious, but just a good film about life in Spain in a close to Blasphemous time period.

I don't know about shows, but as far as music goes, dark ethereal genres or doom metal like My Dying Bride.

If you want a grimier experience than Dark Souls (which sadly is the only thing I have experience with perhaps), I’d suggest Demon’s Souls.

Maybe it's not enough on the religious horror scale, but you might want to check out Berserk, the manga especially- the world is heavy and medieval and depressing and there's one section at least which is pretty much the main character VS the Inquisition.

Thanks for the replies guys! I do have the whole Dark Souls trilogy and DLCs, and I did watched Berserk. I'm checking La Chiesa (Thanks @astromyxin )

Well, if it is about holy warriors fighting monsters and demons, nothing beats Castlevania. About films, I can think of Van Helsing (2004) and Solomon Kane. And if it is anime, I'd go again with Castlevania, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, and Hellsing Ultimate too.

The only thing coming to my mind with similar grim and grimy aesthetics but lacking any of the religious themes is "Flesh and Blood" (1985) - pretty good movie, though...

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain had a similar aesthetic. Dark, grimy, bloody, even the language is extravagant.
You can either do a ps1 emulation or use dos box. The game is abandon ware.

Edit: I got a lot of lovecraft/ celestial horror vibes from Blasphemous. You could check out Blood Born, Darkest Dungeon or the Skautfold games (Usurper is another metroidvania).
