Some tricks and glitches/animation cancelling.
So I've 100% the game and while playing found a couple ways to cancel stuff in the game, nothing that breaks it, but some fun glitches, I am playing the pc version while using a dualshock 4 controller btw.

  • While having the Fourth Toe Made of Limestone equiped you can decrease the recovery of your dodge even further if you dodge while crouching, so press down+dodge and you will be able to dodge just as you finished dodging.
  • If you press down+jump as you dodge you will cancel your dodge, if you press all three buttons at the same time you will immediately cancel your dodge, not really useful by itself but...
  • Press dodge+down+jump+attack and you will do a thrust attack ASAP, this really helps with the spacing.
  • If you dodge then quickly change direction(like from left to right or viceversa)+down+jump+attack you will do a thrust attack in the opposite direction of your dodge, so you can dodge away then counterattack with this, also useful to dodge through charging enemies then quickly stab them in the back
  • In case you didn't know, the thrust attack goes through enemies so if spaced correctly you can hit behind the enemies like the shield ladies or the bell dudes even from the front, since the penitent one seems to be intangible during the attack.
  • Hold down+attack while on a plataform that allows you to jump down to immediately do a falling attack
  • Against attacks that make you slide far from the enemy when you parry them, press dodge+parry then jump as soon as the you parry the attack. If you do it correctly the penitent one will do a little jump while on the sliding animation then fall to the floor, still stuck in the animation, you will be locked in the animation unless you do a crouching attack (afaik), this can help to keep your attacks going instead of getting the slide animation, which is longer than the jump thing I mentioned.
  • If you jump as you touch the ground after falling from a really high distance you can cancel the "slamming" animation, but this is really hard to do, if done correctly the penitent one will jump but the sparks from the slam and the slamming sound effect will still play.

I found a couple other things like these but these are the only ones that are useful, if anyone wants to know the rest just ask.

Thanks a lot there are a few i didn't know.

But you forgot the healing animation cancel. If you use a heal flask in the very last moment when you are about to fall off any ledge it will cancel the healing animation. Very useful in the last boss where you can use the spawning platforms to cancel the healing animation.

I also forgot this one, attack then crouch to cancel the animation, you can do this to attack really quick using the first attack of your combo, dps goes through the roof on stationary enemies

Thanks for the tip, right now I'm trying to find a way to keep the charge and walk around so I can play this game like if it was MMZ lol.
