Esdras too hard
I believe I've done everything possible on the part before Esdras (for the stuff I still can't access, I believe I need to gather stuff past him, especially the remaining toe), and I still can't beat him. Can't even hurt him more than 50%.
(yeah I know, "get killz" - you'll see if your reflexes & coordination will still be the same when you'll be my age)

While I've already used the lady, it doesn't matter because apparently she's not supposed to help this boss...

I was under the impression that the game was forgiving up to Esdras. Like, it looked like the Lady of the Charred Visage held his face closer to the ground more often, after a few attempts, like to make it easier (or maybe it was just random, but it still helped).
Tres Angustias was also pretty easy, but maybe I was already buffed enough.

Esdras doesn't seem to be any easier the more I try. There's nothing left I can loot or grind, the expensive rolling slash finish even looks useless against him.
(and yeah I am wearing the protection against lighting strikes).

It's not unusual for me (Owl Boy, Shovel Knight) to watch the last part of a game on Youtube, but here I'd be missing a large chunk of the game.
IMHO all (single player) games should have cheats or "skip boss after 50 retries".

Oh, and is it me or some of the songs, like in town, have a theme that sound like "Jesus to a child"?

When the boss whirls across the map, flashing lightning, stay on the edge of the screen and wait for it: it will not touch you and you'll have time to place a combo. This tip helped me a lot.

Parry the hammer swings that come right after the flashing lightning too.

Watch him closely and learn his patterns and what pose signals which attack. Some you can parry, some you can dodge, and the lightning storms have their blind spots. He's still tough, but knowing what he's going to do next is the greatest aid you have.

Well thanks, I just beat him, first retry, by staying on the left of the map.
(that, or it did get easier I don't know)

It also helped that I had the item to protect you while you're healing (without it the flasks are just wasted)

I'm not really good at this game, but i could kill him using parry.
Dodge by jumping when he does the electro spin, then parry his maces when is not imbued by lightning. He will get paralized by a moment, and you can deal some decent damage by that moment

I've just started this game yesterday and it seems I didn't get Esdras down and after spending 2 Hours on Esdras I decided to look for a fight on YouTube and for tipps.

10 Mins Ago I just started Blasphemous again and on the first attempt I did him really easy, don't even use a flask till the near end as he has 2 bars left. But to be sure I used them (His Sister is a little annoyence but okay ...).

It helped a lot to ONLY (really ONLY!) focus on attacking after his lighting swings and position in the corner he's swinging towards. After that I just hit him 3-4 times and used twice the dodge to get out of the way and positioned in the other Corner to wait for his swings. I did this the whole time and as I say it's now really easy and I loved the fight lol. Want it once more xD ...

Before I read this tipp and looked the video I died about 50-60 times (2 times I needed only 1 hit to kill him but he were faster than me).
For anybody still struggling or just discovering this piece of art now ;) Don't give up and stay calm :D

I beat Esdras in like my 3rd try you just jump his lightning spinning attack follow him on the edge of the screen and do a 4 combo on his ass rince and repeat. When you figure his pattern he's totally ez.

I'm also a new player. I've almost beaten the game (based on what the save menu tells me I've completed) and struggled on him the most by far. I even one shotted a few bosses after him so I'm not sure what it is about him I found so hard in particular.

What I found with him is to really play hit and run, stay away when he's spinning around, and just try to not get hit. If you can get some parries and combos in when you can you'll be good. It makes the fight long and kind of boring but if it works, hey.

It all goes downhill for me when he summons that flying jerkoff. Does the flying guy still appear in the Esdras battle if he's beaten earlier in the game?

Perpetua is not a guy :). If you beat her when heading to Jondo, she drops an item that will absorb some Lightning damage. But yes, she will be summoned into the fight regardless, so be ready for that.
