High Elf Mage end-game
Hi all,
I play Chaosbane on PS4 and reached Chaos 10 with my High Elf. I haven't leveled any other class over Chaos 4 so I'll stick to High Elf only and the end-game for this class.

I need to say that the addition of Blade of Azyr and tweaking Relentless Sentinel staff introduced a stronger and viable build for, lets call it, static melee Mage. In my opinion, Blade of Azyr and its improved Phantom Blade is the most powerful weapon for Elontir. It provides best damage and triggers two sources of damage (magic and fire) at the same time with every hit. Moreover, it doesn't cost energy, so you can constantly spam the most powerful ability all the time. The only downside of it that I can point out is its melee combat range. However, if you arm your mage with some good passive abilities which give you damage reduction and Relentless Sentinel (don't forget about the Blade's damage reduction itself), you should easily challenge most of the threat.

The fact that there are only two epic weapons in game (Blade of Azyr and Scepter of Ice) which improve the abilities so much, make the other abilities completely useless in the end-game. For example, since i started using Blade of Azyr there is no point using Aetheric Tornado, Qhaysh Surge, Aetheric Ray and Phoenix Bulwark. They are basically far behind two improved abilities and therefore useless.

Personally, I'd either improve abilities listed above or change nerf Phantom Blade and Scepter of Ice.

Tell me guys what is your end-game Elontir. Do you struggle with Chaos 10? Do you think improved Phantom Blade is too OP?

Just bless all green and every class is OP. 51M defence with keela while still having arround 1M offence fully buffed is a bit bonkers.

Yes, I am just laying stress on the fact that other abilities listed become less potent. It seems a pity that weaker abilities were simply passed over, offering players not much variety to play with. You are probably right that it doesn't matter much since all classes geared with green and blessed items will raze everything and anything but why not making the game a little bit more demanding?
I would love to see new epic items similar to Blade of Azyr and Scepter of Ice which improve other abilities even the basic ones.

And I wish my other Slayer skills do as much dmg as the darn jump skill. Some things simply don't happen.
IMO the Sentinel staff is better because the damage/DR boost is so high. If you are fire breathing you are not phantom blading. Blade of Azyr just scales better than any of the other sword options since the base damage of the improved Phantom Blade is so high and it costs 0 energy. The other swords, while cool at lower difficulty, just do not scale.

I got a better build than that, does a lot more damage, has teleport with no CD, and is tankier to boot.

Bel-Korhadris set is Wizard's best set, and I tried to make builds for all of them. Use the Phoenix Herald, and you got 2 residual DoT auras, the lightning bolts with the Bel-Korhadris set + the fire aura on the staff. Use Blade of Azyr, Phase Shift Amulet (+50% damage to enemies near you), Old Ring of Dexterity (+100% damage to energy generating skills, phantom blade), Ring of the Veil (50% damage reduction, you lose energy when you're hit, but it's manageable, dunno why more people don't use this, it's a massive survivability boost).

The residual DoTs, like the lightning bolts hit for big damage, I'm talking like 6-7 million damage on a crit, and the fire DoT aura ticks for 1-2 million, not including the burning damage which is also up there. So I'm doing a ton of damage by just standing near enemies and not even attacking. In fact, chaos 7 and under, I can just walk into packs, and they melt, I don't even need to use an attack skill, other than a phantom blade swing every now and then just to keep my energy up while teleporting around. Usually teleport + swing once, and move on, and ♥♥♥♥ just gets destroyed at mid level chaos difficulties. And the clearing speed is insane with teleport on no C/D. Honestly, Chaos 5-6 or Normal difficulty really makes no difference.

For passives:

Quaysh Shield (Superior) - Seems like a no brainer here, health regen, and damage.
Arcane Binding (Mastered) - 1 attack with phantom blade gets the fire + magic bonus with 1 hit.
Hero of the Desert: no brainer here
Aqshy Mastery (mastered) - fire damage and crit bonus for burning.
Aether Intelligence (mastered) - no brainer here
Counter Spell (superior) - Gives more damage than master blacksmith, but you can use that too.

Attack Skills:

Phantom Blade (heroic)
Step Between worlds (heroic)
Aether Vortex (mastered)
Aether Storm (mastered) - lightning bolts give you a 20% damage buff
Arcane Manifestation - Still good for a low level god spell.

Legendary Skill:

Legendary Punishment - 100/100 50% chance enemies take 50% more damage for 5 secs

I can run Chaos 10 with this setup. I recorded a video, and will upload it later on. It clears Chaos 10 probably faster than some of you think. Basically, you just warp around, and get in the middle of a large pack, lay down an aether vortex, and melt them all, and move and speed warp to the next pack, repeat. You can easily dodge the boss attacks by warping through to the other side. It's super safe, super fast, and super fun to play. It's like playing Diablo 2 wearing the Enigma runeword armor.

Build guide? What do you need explained? The god tree? I got that in the video, which I'll upload in a few hours. The file size is really large, because I don't know how to make a quality video with a more reasonable file size, because I'm a scrub at this ♥♥♥♥.

As far as gear progression goes, aim for red pieces first, and gradually swap them out for greens as you find them. Heck, this build even with only reds with random rolls can still smoke chaos 5 no problem, and get very good clearing speed. Honestly, you can farm chaos 5 rank 10 invasion for the bonus 1000 loot quality to get your greens. If you do invasions, you need to ensure you have plenty of health drain on attack though, I'm talking like at least 400 total (minimum).

Loving it man! Instant change as far as I am concerned; Only problem is I need to farm for better gear and now my friends don't want to play with me because THEY CANNOT KEEP UP! :)
