What's the point of archiving items?

So while talking with Huang, you can archive items you bring to him, or keep them. If you decide to archive them, you have to wait for a few minutes for him to go off and come back. This obviously makes the process more of a slog than it needs to be, and I don't see any point why you would opt to do it. Not sure if you get rewarded, and there is nothing to do while Huang is busy walking off. Am I missing something here?

If you keep too many items he'll make a comment about you being selfish but I'm not sure what, if any, impact that has on the plot.

that one triggers no matter. I got it (on my 2nd playtrough) at the first meeting with Huang after showed him 2 items.

i think the selfish message is based on how many you keep vs. how many you give. if you keep more than you give you'll get it. at some point with huang he shows you an item he doesnt want to put in storage and you can get him to say you can keep items, so i imagine it affects something. i think theres a similar message with tapi if you look at a bunch of items but dont trade.

On one of my play throughs I didn't give up any items. It didn't seem to change anything, except later in the game, any time I went to IOX a random dude (conservator?) would show up in front of the library and give me a hard time about not archiving anything.. but it didn't seem to stop me from doing anything.

Yeah, I did my first loop where I didn't give anything (thinking I needed to have items on hand to triangulate sites), and my second loop with giving everything, didn't notice any changes.

i kept more than two items on my second playthrough and didnt get the selfish message, like i said i think it is just based on how many you give vs how many you keep.
