POTENTIAL SPOILER: What's in a Name

I am on my 4th playthrough and noticed that Aliya is now called Aliya Mazwai instead of Aliya Elasra and that the book Huang goes on about is called the Annals of Elasra instead...

Not sure what to make of this but there could be something in this given the loop theory ...

yeah, I posted something about this a while back. In my plays, the game has never come out and said it, but I would assume that Aliya is the loop reincarnation of Mazwai.. even though I haven't seen any good evidence for short term (human lifespan) loops or a way to transfer .. conciousness? to new humans. but, either way, she is in the best position to document the goings-on across the nebula, I reckon. I guess along with this, I was intrigued by the fact that the empress seemed to know who Aliya was once awakened.. It's possible that the empress had awareness of what six encountered, but I feel like that would be crappy storytelling also the old copy of Maswai that she finds at the withering palace appears to have been erased and rewritten lends to the idea of the short term loop

It is a confirmed easter egg. The names swap if you choose to vault.

In my 2nd play-through the last name started with that surname (I chose to shut it all down, release all the water) - and after one of the recent patches, it went back tot the original surname.

The easter egg was bugged when it was originally patched in, and was happening when you didn't choose the option rather than when you did. It has since been fixed to work as intended :)

on my third playthrough my name was changed even though i didnt vault on the first or second. this happened yesterday, so its either random, or hasnt been fixed.

It can't be fixed yet - I haven't used the vault yet and on my 3rd playthrough I still got a name swap.
