Iirc, the enemies in that version also had RPGs to kill your vehicles, the classes in that game version were really different, it was almost like a different game.
A vehicle used to cost like 80k-200k iirc, but they could die like normal soldiers if they got hit by grenades or RPGs, so you had to micro them and it was a big risk. They were strong against infantry, but you never knew which enemies had RPGs...
I think you could also drive them, but it wasn't that fun. I don't remember.
So TL:DR, the devs decided to cut them and rebalance the game to be infantry only. More boring, but more balanced and not as broken.
HOWEVER, I think you can play them if you go to the beta branch and select beginning version, haven't tested it though.
EDIT: nvm, the beginning version has no vehicles and it sucks anyways, the test branch also doesn't have them. So unless you find an old version somewhere, it seems vehicles are gone forever :(
Yah...don't worry. They tried to make Viking Conquest basically to cash in on AC: Valhalla too, and every thing was 'your boat starts a raid on a shore' and it was a horrific mess.
Incidentally they banned modders off discord who tried to restore vehicles.
The devs all but admitted they simply didn't want to take time to fix vehicles back in the day. They had no seperate armor system for vehicles. Back when they were in, I never had issue killing them, because you could reliably get them to chase into grenade spam crossfire.
Because the AI is basic no matter what. Modders wanted to fix it, and got threatened by the dev team for asking about it. Ahh the days.
