i'm loving how the game is shapping, the added back troop customization this last patch is amazing, it gave back that feeling of guerrila warfare and rising up your guys from nothing to deadly veterans, also each loss feel much more personal now, just keep the good work! i'm really excited to see the future of Freeman :D
Not sure yet when the next update gonna come, need to discuss things more
Plus they couldn't get killed which makes the game feel less realistic.
So after 7 "Injuries" these "Special Characters" are in no way better than normal soldiers
The problem is simple that it makes not really fun to loose NPC´s you "like".
Leads only to a full Barrack of such NPC´s you dont dare to use in battle.
What skills/traits would fit into the current game (inclusive upcoming features they confirmed)
(For normal soldiers and for "Hero class" soldiers)
* Allow to train extra skills on other soldiers (like use of grenadelauncher)
* Allow to recruit normally not available Soldiers
* Cheaper Prices at traders
* Black market access
* Faster traveling
* More inventory
* Extra grenade (Soldier himself or whole squad)
* +1 Sight for whole squad
* Raise Camoflage for squad
(not too much, could be immersion breaking because "magic")
* Damage against soldiers of a faction
* Defense against soldiers of a faction
Hmm out of brainpower for today, please add your thoughts
The above are the types of things I would like. IMO +1 sight and raise camoflage might unbalance the game. Being able to see an opponent and them not see you is a huge deal - it would only be 'fair' if the AI had similar capabilities and I don't think playing against an AI who had those advantages would be much fun.
The 'faction' powers don't come off as realistic to me. It works for Total War with a general, but on a tactical level I don't see an individual solder being more or less effective against one faction other than perhaps refusing to fight one.
I was thinking something even more basic than that. A 'special' soldier might add +1 to the characters marksmanship or +1 to leadership and the like. That comes off as being lame compared to your ideas but I think it would be easier to program and hopefully an easy goal to meet.
The only potential problem, and you mentioned it earlier, is what would stop a player from just hiding those characters and not including them in battles? Maybe that would be part of the idea, that the player 'hides' them. But I think it's better when everyone gets shot at, that when someone dies in battle you actually feel the loss of that individual.
