No weapons at start of new campaign
After selecting all the options regarding weapons expert and trainer on normal difficulty i start with some body armour, a helmet but no weapons and a bunch of 7.62 mags. Is that normal?

depends on what you choose I guess...

Just seemed really weird picking those options, thinking that yeah, my character has always been a soldier, and then starting without a weapon but keeping body armour and a heap of ammunition handy. I'll have to try other start options and see what i get but i didn't really seem right.

There's another thread where the devs admit to a bug that does this, and it should be fixed. Even so, you should have enough to start by selling what you have or by doing a couple of delivery missions.

this is already fixed for the next version
That or join a battle between faction troops and bandits, then just hide until the faction wins. Should be able to loot a weapon.

I believe you don't always start with a weapon. I've noticed if you pick a character backstory that has low gun proficiency you'll get a gun you can't yet use, but if you pick a character backstory with high proficiency you'll have a high prof but with no gun. I'm guessing it's some kind of balancing thing to stop you starting with dead-precise accuracy and a good gun.
Really should at least get a cheap pistol with every start, as funny as starting with no gun is. Though I guess that could be a roleplay element, too!
Lol didn't realize that was a bug. I just bought a cheap pistol and dubbed myself commisar angry man

There is a option, not exactly sure of the discription in the character backstory, where if you are a general who has some followers you start off with 3 rifleman with a4, just take 1 of theirs. Very good starting weapon.
