Best production line for export?
What do you consider to be the best production line for export?

Not sure if its the best but I typically go for charcoal, salt, honey (my villagers produce loads), apples, sunflower oil.

Pretty much the above. I always start with Charcoal and use it throughout a towns life span. It's easy income for exporting.

Sunflower oil is also super simple, although you're tied to crop cycles.

Importing leather and selling shoes is a good profit maker.

Sunflower oil export is the main income in my games, like others mention, especially early on. Only a farm and an oil workshop needed, and the two workers there works very quickly.

Also, you get twice the amount of oil compared to raw materials, so 100 sunflowers give 200 oil. So potentially 5000 oil from a single full size farm field.

As the town grows, everything possible to export is basically exported.

I always start the game by importing leather and iron, and exporting shoes and charcoal. Then as time progresses, I start exporting sunflower oil and importing fabric. Then export clothes. By this time apples are ready for export. I also set up the salt mine and start exporting salt. If the map has unlimited limestone, I export lime, but in limited quantity as it is required to build the new houses. I also export honey sometimes, but some towns do not produce much honey. Some times I also export horseshoes and the other horse thing produced by saddlery.

I have built towns of size 1000+ population and finances of over 70000 currency units. It took over 75 yrs but was well worth it. Now in the current town with new buildings and workplaces, I have a population of 450 and finances of over 25000 currency units.

Make a ton of cow sheds. They only need hay which only requires space and laborers. Set tannery's near the river for water and select only use cow hides. Then get 6/7/8 tanneries running, 6 shoemakers and you have 20k shoes a year to sell, plus beef and milk for everyone to eat and drink. It's a better cycle than importing leather.

Get plenty of fields running wheat/flax or hemp cycles -> textile makers and then clothes. Clothes sell for 25 a pop and if you can sell 5-10k a year that's decent money.

10 Sheep farms --> 10 fulling mills --> broadcloth is quite a good earner. Warm clothes sell for 40, but importing sheep hides is pretty costly. Good to balance clothes makers throughput if textile is running short, though.

:steamthis: Indeed a good tip! I was thinking mainly at the start of the game.

Never had a large setup like you describe! :goalastonished: I think most has been 5 of each cow- and sheep farms and 4 tanneries or something.

Shoes and charcoal are constantly being sold. I buy 12K-15K leather at a time to produce shoes along with whatever the tannery makes.
Then sunflower oil, salt, apples, honey and chicken eggs.
