I also have LIF:FV and Banished and liked Banished better than LIF , but I much prefer Ostriv. In saying that, you need to keep in mind it's still early stages.
Ostriv is much more realistic and works very much to real life...not just typical game expectations.
Just my opinion though!
As long as you know it's alpha, just into EA and content is pretty limited, yeah you should like it. Personally I've only got a little time playing. I bought early to show support but don't plan to put serious time in until there's more content.
Development is very active, developer seems like a great guy, patches and hotfixes come regularly enough for me.
Ostriv is already awesome, more content and more time to cook will only help. Buy it now if you don't mind waiting for the full game and support development or wait till it's done if you can't handle the whole EA thing. Either way if you like these type of game, this is (will be) one of the better ones.
Banished with mods is far and away excelled from Ostriv. Obviously that's not to say that Ostriv isn't fun, after all... 100 hours in.
I'm hoping that what we see in (this days) alpha is only a glimpse into what will be in full release, it's rather basic right now and there is no random maps (which is a shame - since building on the same maps repeatedly, shows that you need to start in the same area on each map- ) and while the farming is nice with multiple products, it still seems off to me.
If I had to rate the three:
1. Banished (with Black Liquid mod)
2. Ostriv
3. Life is Feudal: Forest Village (this to me just felt like a Banished clone)
I agree.... From the early days for players in Ostriv (alpha 1) the dev, Yev was only part time building the game... in fact his history starts in 2004 I believe, when his dream started... this is not like an ordinary game of 'build a game and make some money' concept.... Yev, I believe has a real dream he is building on... it will take time and has... I think he actually started the actually building in 2014.... he is still in his dream and is not going anywhere any time soon.
I think of Ostriv as a journey... a very pleasant one,,, relaxing and engulfing. I do play other game in between, but always head back to Ostriv when I'm worn out with confict and Kaos.
A game I'm pretty sure... if you are looking.... to have as a life long 'go to' when nothing else is working for you, when ever you need it, it is there.
Just my interruption!
There are some really great ideas here like crop rotation on the farms, cattle grazing fallow fields and I really love how the economy works with your available gold being intrinsically linked to the money of the villagers, a proper cyclical economic model.
The few things that worry me about the game is no random maps and maybe the building variety. The thing it has going for it is it's early access, so hoping random maps, etc. get added for replayability.
I do like the way the game looks and I like what people said about the economy. Economy and my gold available being dependent on the people is pretty cool. I think if random maps eventually get added that'll ad to the replayability.
