Trying to mod the game this early will cause a lot of problems, which a lot of people will associate with the game and result in unwarranted negative reviews. There is a cheat mod out there somewhere already, though.
Yeah another banished is not needed.
The "spirit" of the game will be lost, mods with buildings that are not from the era of the game will appear and various fantastic inventions there, for example "the magician's house", etc.
I won't be installing any magician's house crap, Hello Kitty reskins or renaming all my townies Steve and Melissa, but if the ability to make those things wasn't part of the developer's vision he wouldn't give people the tools to make them in the first place.
The Mother-Nature don't ever like any emptiness, and fills them every time by a manner or another.
Forum boards already give all the necessary clues for devs :
.. just needed to have time, motivation and energy to follow these "vectors" and resolve / optimize the equations.
time = manpower
motivation = professionalism
energy = knowledge.
Otherwise, the "spirit" risks to be jammed :
.. in a homebrew software / boring tech-demo .. not much offering for "Gameplay",
.. enveloped with loads of pretextes for every flaw / failure,
.. needs another "five" years, even to be able to "enjoy" the beta- phase,
.. with loads of fruitless / endless chatter to get nowhere.
This risks to end in a similar fashion to every case :
with already-well-known lifecycles : a wasteland of broken and abandoned junk,
without any mods .. in addition.
All the best wishes.
Currently "Spirit" is played by 200 concurrent / everyday players,
The "Magician House" : by 20 000 ...
.......................
Edit to refresh the numbers:
Currently "Spirit" is played by-"bye" 129 last hour / 185 last 24h peak
.. concurrent / everyday players,
The "Magician House" : by 28,568 last hour / 43,277 last 24h peak ...

Looking for tranquility from everydays overwhelming boredom.?
then
Get a/nother Life ...
.
You are of course free to "dying in style" ... in game terms .
but
it will be difficult to explain this for future clients.
I preferred to hear the same bold words from the developer himself.
As you know : "Hope Commercialising", .. ToS for Alpha Games etc.
I think it will be better that way
I don't know why you think, that the developer needs help with programming the game.
He is constantly working on it.
If he needed help, he would ask for it.
