And as a woman who's played games for decades and thus had to both get used to and never fretted much about all-male casts/playing as a guy, so many people being actively offended by the reverse has been a little eye-opening and bewildering.
Yes, all male casts are equally bad in my opinion, I like gender equality... play what you want to play as... but I soon came to realize that it just doesn't matter in a game that you don't actually control your character.
An all female only MMO however would be another matter for me, and one I would avoid.... As well as an all male MMO.... gender equality all the way.
That said, I actually like that O.D.D is all females, with the INTENT of luring many females to actually trying out playing games... I can outright respect this decision, and back it 100%.
I guess I just am perplexed and dismayed that most people still don't think much about all-male casts but an all-female cast elicits such an intensely hostile reaction from people. I'm starting to understand why feminists have some of the thoughts they do. :/
I wonder what the reaction to an all-male cast would be described as? "Polite?" Something tells me not...
If one is an injustice and something to think about, then this is too.
Since in my experience there either is no reaction at all to an all-male cast, or the reaction is that the person will still play but wishes there was an option for female characters. Not such an equally intensely negative reaction to the idea of playing as a male character.
So seeing such intense hostility to playing as female characters in games was thus a little surprising and eye-opening-ly offputting.
It is alienating, for me at least, just as I assume an all-male cast would be for a female player. I disagree that calling this “ridiculous” is hostile but to each their own.
In your experience there is no reaction to an all-male cast? Really? Maybe in 1980, but certainly not now.
I thought the goal is to be more inclusive? How is this inclusive?
