With the new update controller control works. Which is great.
When you shoot secondary weapon grenade launcher after each shot, it recenter the target circle back on your player, and your character turns to face the bottom of the screen. So you can't rapid fire the weapon. You have to re-target after each shoot or it auto centers on you and you end up blowing up yourself.
A bug I found when quitting a battle when using the controller, the confirmation comes up yes/no. But you can't hit with your controller, and your mouse cursor disappears. Causing you to ALT Tab back to Steam and hit stop game.
Suggestion, when aiming your weapons could we pull back the view a little. Like how it is with WASD controls zooms out slightly and shifts the perspective. Making you character perspective move opposite of your aim.
Maybe make it so left and right on the D-Pad doesn't have a right bumper modifier. So like the arm blade could just the d-pad and the right stick direction, then trigger to use it. Where as jump pack would d-pad then trigger to confirm location
1. Pressing a skill/item button would first activate the preview
2. Then on the second press use it
3. Holding down a skill button turns the skill off (might be troublesome)
Currently:
1. Pressing once activates the ability preview
2. Pressing again turns it off (this is how it is in RTS)
3. You need to press the trigger (shoot) button in order to use a skill
Having to switch buttons from face to trigger is kind of slow for activating a skill.
The downsides of using face buttons for skill usage is no quick way to toggle skills off
Thoughts? Ability activation could use some speeding up.
Thank you.
Maybe have the command circle menu not recenter on your character after each order. Maybe push down the left stick to recenter on character.
Also noticed with the controller if I put the command circle over a loot crate, hi-light it and close the command my NPC doesn't open it.
Where as in RTS controls doing the same thing a team member will run to it
I fiddled around in the steam big picture mode (although I am usually not willing to use it), without any changes.
Is there something else I need to do?
The controller works well for all other games, this is something specific to red solstice.
I would really like to play it with a controller.
https://postimg.cc/gallery/kJwrdQw that are the settings that make the controller work for me
first picture:
click on steam, settings, controller, general settings
second and third picture in game shift+tab, upper right corner controller config...
It works! thanks for the detailed instructions! I already had the gamepad config, but apparently, the first part was missing. Interestingly, other games do not seem to need it. Looking forward to play!
BTW: toller steam name :-)
Danke, dass hör ich erstaunlich oft
Just got the game and the first thing I had to do is force quit, restart the campaign and untick the "tutorial" box, because with a gamepad the tutorial is completely broken. You can't even get beyond the very first interaction that pops up.
Guess I'll do learning by doing, who needs tutorials anyway
BTW part of the UI is overlapping when using a controller.
Unfortunately, the steps to activate the controller ingame caused another of my games to detect the controller improperly.
What I always do for controller sets per game, I open it re-save and change the name to make it to reflect the game I use it for. So "Gamepad" I'd change to "Gamepad RS2". Now it's a different copy, then any other game that may use "Gamepad" also.
Tool tips in controller UI end up covering your character. Maybe move them to the side of the screen when they are show.
A option so the mini map doesn't rotate.
The vehicles both sticks want to move the main turret, maybe make the turret stay in the direction until you move it with the right stick.
When driving a vehicle its nice the camera can turn with you when driving. But found it hard readjusting the maps orientation for my character.
Maybe as a option add the tracking camera to you character, kind of a isometric 3rd person view. Then forward and back with right stick would be how close you are to you character.
On the main map screen can we show all the buffs on our character and what the do.
On the map screen use the D-Pad up and down to cycle available missions.
Totally agree
Update Steam Deck: I have been able so successful play the main campaign on medium difficult semi default controller settings(controller default in game menu). Holding the "Y" button for squad controls is a little tricky; bc it requires "A" to be pressed to make the in game radical selection. I made a easy work around by mapping R5 rear paddle to "A" on Stam Deck. So far, besides the former mentioned; ALL controls & skills are optimized well for controller. I'm about 6 missions in, and I've used the Mech, and Tank Vehicles, and turret controls seems to work fine.
