Not a fan of the new start
The new start is a lot less clear to brand new players, who can very easily get lost and die over and over. Mina’s playing with my kids and that’s how it went, and it’s not like they haven’t played survival games before.

The old tutorial was much more clear.

The amount of new stuff in the game at the beginning is quite overwhelming, and now new players start quite far away from safe areas and it’s not that obvious that one should follow a specific path.

you only have to follow the path , how that could be a confusing thing?
and story wise its way better like this , than the old one. They even tell you that you can build your base on top of the trees

Because it was not clear at all? It took us a while to see there was a path.

Survival game veteran here. Just playing through my first hour, and just paused to come and vent my frustration- the start is NOT GOOD. Either you drop a player in without help and let them figure it out, or you give them a clear tutorial. what you do NOT do, is give them tutorial messages, and when you're reading them, you get attacked by angry wasps. That's 4 message posts I nearly died on now!!

That's way up there in frustration levels as dying during a locked cinematic and escort missions.

calling yourself a survival game veteran >>>> can't even kill a simple wasp or even be aware of your surrounding :steamfacepalm:

the path its really clear , you have grass on left and right so its pretty obvious you dont have to go there , if you see water or a blocked path or even a damn frog you will know that you're going the wrong way , you dont need to be a genius

Well said and there is nothing to add. The game imagines itself as survival, I don't know why people think that this is a fun farm.

...You're being obtuse on purpose.

I have no issues dispatching a wasp or two.
I'm mentioning my experience to let you know in advance I'm not an idiot as you're immediately assuming.

My issue is, that you're being attacked while reading a tutorial message, that you can NOT get out of by hitting escape.
If it happened just once, oh well. But four times!
It's not an added difficulty. It's just frustrating. I'm bloody reading how to manage inventory while an ant is chewing my leg off.

If I was an 8-year old just getting into a new game, that'd frustrate the hell out of me. It's poor design. Tutorial messages telling you how to move should give you the time to read.

So either pause the game while reading the initial tutorial messages, remove hostiles around the tutorial message signs, or allow invulnerability while reading or something. I've not seen this happen in YEARS.

Exactly this. Very well said.

It’s ok you can accept the new beginning is worse than the old one. Close the door now, shush. Don’t let it hit you on the wait out.

bro you made two thread and none of them makes any sense at all , you complain on the turorial when you just have to go FOWARD and complain about a reviving mechanics on a survival game , get your facts straight
Zedd Feb 16, 2024 @ 12:20pm
Mmmm. It reminds me of 90ies games where you could get attacked during a conversation with an NPC, or a story cinematic.
It's only a small gripe, but it did make me swear out loud after a few times of it happening.

you wouldnt even need to read the tutorial if you really were a veteran on the genre. And idk why you would start reading when theres an ant you can clearly hear and see because they really spawn in front of you when you pass by.
This game its not made for an 8 years old kid , you couldnt bring up a worse example.
Zedd Feb 16, 2024 @ 1:00pm
Personal attacks can only go so far before a report, Damian.
Whereas your suggestion would be to not read the messages? I'd call that poor design for a tutorial buddy.
You didn't answer- did you think that was good design then? You're still failing to contribute to this issue, aside from questioning my skill, so I think you and I are done.

agree 100%
new player here, veteran gamer

no way anyone other than hardcore gamers are going to make it to the "starting town" alive without being pretty frurstrated.

if there was an obvious road to town that would make sense but here i am going off road jumping over logs on the river and dodging giant bugs for 30 minutes just running for my life to get to the damn tutorial area by following the compass and map

this is going to turn off a LOT of new players

im looking for starting guides on youtube but none of the videos are even relevent anymore

Drogean,

I take it you've gotten there by now, but just for reference-

Your spawn point should be over by the dead wasp where you started- when lost or in trouble, if you quit and reload, you should show up there again.
After a chat with the wounded little person, you should get a map marker (M) of your destination, NW of your location.
There's a bit of a path north, and then northwest over some planks, that's marked by Owl statues. They have glowing eyes to start off with so should be fairly easy to spot, and when you click on them they'll give you a bit of a tutorial message.
Then just find the next statue further N , NW, just be careful as there's beasties that don't care if you're reading the messages :)

Once you cross the river, you're looking for a big tree with a little camp on the side of it. Make your way around the tree root to the camp and you've reached your first contact!

Small tip- pressing V shows weaknesses of opponents, the ants at the start don't like slashing, and one of your first starter weapons just happens to be a slashy sword :)

Have to agree that the new tutorial is quite lackluster and even confusing. The old tutorial did a better job at explaining mechanics and following a simple path towards the unknown. Even when teaching you the basic controls and how to collect resources the current tutorial is not beginner friendly.

What happened in my case was that I followed the path until I reached several owl statues, however once I opened the map there was an npc icon right at the beginning that it seemed that I missed so I went all the way back looking for the npc and eventually ended up fighting some damselfly way off the starting path.
