I haven't tamed one. I was just getting annoyed that as I ventured into the little maze of colony spiders looking for that shimmer for my other character on 200% creature health/damage....and I was more or less run/gliding for my life while I had a hornet and 15 colony spider nipping on my heels. If you happen to outrun the hornet, even though he's right next to the spider and despite that the game says they can't resist them, he ignores them and flys back to his post.
So its not possible to kite one into the other so they attack each other. Some creatures you can do that with.
To tame a hornet, you need the colony spider abdomen for an ingredient
I think the "can´t resist them" is just an explanation for why you need their abdomens to craft the hornet treat.
I´ve been using the fact that some enemies will attack each other a lot actually, but I think once they´re on to you, they won´t be distracted by other mobs.
