Question/help on Ruins & Crypt
Is the only way of getting to the ruins by catapulting myself into the air? The elder said something about a hidden path to the ruins. I am slowly coming to terms with gliding in air, but the thought of launching myself like that makes me extremely ill irl. Claiming the great tree was an ordeal. Used to climb tree's as a young girl, clear to the top, grew up & have a horrid fear of height. The game has helped someway in easing that fear, but still, launching myself into the air. UGH.

I have gone all over the island right before the ruins and also around the ruins. I even ran the ridge of the ruin island and got a glimmer. Yet found no hidden path anywhere. Have a 5 or 6 story stairway beside the ruins built trying to get up there, but need to reinforce that further I guess to get it any higher. Out of ideas.

I am hoping I am missing something so obvious that my fear of height has made me overlook it.

Thank you for any help.

It's entirely possible to get to the historian on foot. But you will be climbing the ruins of a massive "giant's" church. So if you do indeed have a fear of heights, you're going to up really high. Akin to walking on the girders of a high rise being built. There's lot of points where you're edging around ledges, jumping gaps, etc.

The catapult is just a convenient fast way to do it. That whole area is pretty dangerous. Those big black stag beetles hit like mack trucks. Then there's lizards (the bigger cousins of the geckos), hornets all over, and packs of grey flies. Being able to just skip 90% of that mess is pretty enticing.

If there's a short cut to get back in quickly, I missed it. The historian is literally in the middle of a maze. I kind of expected something along the lines of "here, have my key to the hidden back door so you can come and go easier in the future".

Thank you very much! Not worried about the mobs, but getting there. When I got the quest the Elder said there is a hidden path to get there. I will search for that awhile longer to see if I can find it. I don't mind falling a story or two but that cliff is another story, lol.

It is indeed quite the path, bring a torch or torches if you don't have the fire fly torch yet.

Ooo is this the lower ledge? I ran around the middle of the island on a ledge, there is a glimmer at the end (the part that has the raised door and the ruins are on cliff above).....and I saw another ledge down lower closer to the water level. How to get to that ledge?

There was glimmer down there.

You know that area which the big giant full size wooden door on the opposite side of where the king stag is....all the way in the back is the stone railing pillars and then the endless water/lake/sea.....so if from the door, follow along the way till you get to the pillar/railing/cliffs....right around that corner there is one piece that you have to get up. Either get lucky with the jumping, grapple shots, or build some stairs. Only need like a single foundation placement to climb up and jump or you can get fancy put stairs. The rest is an easy path going to a tunnel. Once inside, be aware, there are critters. the first fork, if you take a right, will lead you to a colony spider spawn area for endless amount of fun. going left ( or straight ish ) at the fork instead, will lead you to an open area with flies and a stag beetle. Its harder to explain from here, but taking a right will lead you to a roach, more flies and a ramp up....this is the long way natural path to the historian. Under/behind a ramp is a tunnel that leads to those colony spiders that spawn, going the opposite direction of that will be the front viewing area of the historian. Its possible to build some stairs up and jump/glide the rest of the way to him.

Yes, that was the ledge I was running around on yesterday, somehow missed the opening! I just went back to it and there it was. Thank you all for the help. Silly I know playing something with a height fear, but it is helping me in some ways, and love the building!

I wanted to add here in case anyone else has this problem.

There is a flat plateau right below the cliff. You will see a half raised doorway. If you go around to the right, there is a small ledge that runs along the cliff that you can run along. At the end of it, you will come to a 'glimmer' on the ground. Yesterday I picked that up and nothing. There was a blank cliff wall. Today when I went back there, the wall had turned into a cave opening. I don't know if it was a bug yesterday, or if you have to go back after getting that glimmer from the ground. Just wanted to mention that in case anyone else was stuck. Go back and see if that cave entrance has appeared after you either sleep/or return the next day.

Yep that was the ledge I ran the day of the update. The wall by the glimmer was just a cliff wall, no opening. I picked up the glimmer, and the next day when I went back, the glimmer was a white dust pile and the opening was there.

I think I've seen some areas like there where there is a temp wall to block certain underground areas off.
