That's not true in Smalland. Every player will have a world save in a folder on the player's own computer.
The world save is located in
"C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\SMALLAND\Saved\SaveGames\Worlds"
So check that folder on your gf's computer. If the world is not there, then it's gone. However, this should not happen just like that. Someone either deleted it by accident, logged into the computer with a different account name, or it could indeed be a Steam cloud desync, but that happens very rarely. I've never had this once in 20 years of using the Steam cloud. But I have a strong internet connection. Only reason I could think of why Steam would desync your cloud saves is, because your connection is really, REALLY bad.
