What's the sense of the food?
Basically, there are 3 food's groups.
1st) campfire
2nd) Cauldron
3rd) Stone Oven
Basically, each group gives the same vantages, it doesn't matter which kind of dish you eat (few exceptions with cold resistance, but is almost useless).
But the worse thing is that there's not a real reason to eat (for example) a Herptile Roulade that gives 70 nourishment while you still have a max of 100 and when you are below 70 you don't heal.
better food?
mushrooms steak and ant skewer.
cheap. easy to find and cook everywhere, when you are at 70, you eat. no problems.

So.
Nice to have all of those dishes, but... WHY !?!?!?!?!?!?!?

i think the best foods give 720 seconds before they start the tickdown, thats really only the reason for the different foods, i think the cooking on the fire has the least "freeze" time, and the oven has the best of 720 seconds, so basically if you eat something made from the oven your food wont start to tick down for 12 minutes i think it is

campefire foods is 180 seconds of food nourishment block and 30 replenishment

the cauldron is 50 replenishment and 360 seconds food block

and the stone oven is 70 replenishment and 720 seconds, so yeah if you make the harder food to do in the game it means you dont have to eat as often every 12 mins before it ticks down is blocked

yes i see.
but the point is that almost never you let your nourishment falls down below 70, so.. what's the point to have 70 replenishment and 720 sec if you eat before you go so low and before you finish the countdown?
and, anyway, why so many dishes if they have almost all the same results?

i don't like to compare games, but.. did you evere played Valheim?
there's a meaning there, for the many different dishes.

I did play valhiem and I do agree because the soldiers in this game drop mushroom steaks I literally live on them now so I get your point completely the food in this game isn’t really a “feature” compared to other games
yeah.
exactly.
and it's so sad, because there are so many different kind of dishes, so many good ideas, but totally useless.
Join the discord and give them some feedback on this subject, maybe they will review the dishes and make them more useful.

The point is they use different ingredients. Depending on where you are on the map, certain things will be easier or harder to find from the local creatures.

Once you get to the north part of the map those scouts and elite soldiers pretty much drop mushroom steaks after every kill so I haven’t made a meal since I got to the north map, only thing I really make now is poison resistance and that’s only for a few boss fights

same me.
usually when i go huntig vipers, even if.. well, 3 handcannon shot and they are done, so the risk is minimal.
but, yes, the point of my question is the sense of so many kind of food if there's no actual reason to use them, even because you never go oer 100 and is not a good idea to let it go down 70, so the only food you really use is the one that gives 30, like mushrooms steaks.
Also, the diversity of food allows a little RP angle. After returning to base after a good run, I would celebrate by having a dessert. I just kind of imagined my character kicking back on a couch having a strawberry cake, and licking his fingers clean afterwards.

Yeah food needs a balance pass.

So many are just not worth making because they use more ingredients than similar recipes that provide the same amount of nourishment, for much easier to find ingredients.

For example, the cauldron, Garlic Pudding, provides +50 Nourishment, blocks nourishment loss for 360 seconds, costs a Garlic Leaf, Bug's Lymph and Flour, nothing overly difficult to get, but much more time consuming than..

Strawberry Jam. For the exact same Nourishment gain and block time. 2 Strawberry, 1 Honey crumble, both easily attainable in mass quantities, both obtainable in the same area too.
You get not hungry for a certain amount of time so u don't need to bother to eat all 4-5 mins.
