Multiplayer base building
So i bought and played the game when it first came out and absolutely enjoyed it, but there was one thing that i wasnt to fond of and am now curious of if it has ever changed. Base building, Are the bases still "player locked" (each person has their own base and loot, dont share when one isnt online). Im attempting to get my wife to play, we just finished a playthrough of grounded and she loved it, so i thought maybe try this game. But we kind of want that sharing like grounded had, not the each player has their own thing. If anyone could help me with a solid answer i would really appreciate it.

There's still no sharing as far as I know. If you're talking about tree bases, those are locked to each character, and when the character that owns the tree base leaves a world, their treebase goes poof.

You could build on the ground somewhere. There would still be ownership issues, but yuou could build a basically a small town. With a house for each player. Just an idea.

As you move forward through the game, the treebases become less and less useful. There are NO great trees in forbidden monuments or amber valley. I picked a great tree that's in the middle of the first forest map, and I've left my treebase there permanently. I've actually started building castle walls around the base of the tree. The castle is the base for one of my alts. When I'm playing as the alt character, even _he_ can't summon my main characters treebase.

Thanks, yeah it was the tree bases i was talking about. i figured it was still the same but wanted to check since there has been A lot of updates since i last played. I also wasnt sure if building down on the ground was ever a good idea with how often it could potentially be attacked. I do appreciate the input though.

Full disclosure, I play on a private server. With a password. So, I don't have to worry about any griefing or looting. And even treebases weren't safe from that at one point. They supposedly fixed it, but there are occasionally scattered posts about people logging back in to find their whole base basically gutted after playing on a multiplayer server. All the chests broken open, everything taken.

If you set up base in the amber valley, you're going to have to build something on the ground there. Like I said, no great trees at all. I built a second base on the hood of the rusty pickup truck. Great view.

The alt i'm currently playing doesn't even have a tree base. I made that alt specifically to join other players worlds to help them out. The worst I'd lose was their gear if I got jumped in another game. Now that alt is my Intelligence 100 crafter, and he's decked out in full legendary gear. But if I want anything out of my treebase I have to log out, and log back in as the main.

What you need is a dedicated server. Feature not available yet so it's kind of a single player you can eventually show to someone. But as a survival, not fit to full multiplayer gameplay yet.

The issue they were specifically talking about was bases built in a "great tree". Those are transportable. Simply talking to an npc at another great tree location transports the entire base at the top of the tree to that tree. A tree base can even follow that character if they join someone else's server. The entire base is part of the character record.

But, unfortunately, if the owner leaves the game, so does the tree base.

If you build on the ground, and not in a great tree, then there's access. Anything built on the ground is persistent all the time.

Do you own the game, mesket?
