I sure hope not
It wouldn't upset me if they do but I don't think it's needed either, and it would need re-balancing with that in mind since it's designed without it right now. It's a perfectly valid game style to have your upgrades be your own skills and the items you earn instead of magical xp from existing in the world.
and likely it wont ever get any of those cuz this game just havent built up the path well to have these systems and is gonna remain mediocre.
But they are difficult to balance.
This is present in very popular games such as Valheim and Kenshi.
It's fun at first, but we end up repeating monotonous tasks to improve our skills halfway through, and many users use mods to improve their skills.
I accept if a game has a skill component, but if it doesn't, that's fine.
It would be nice if the developers put the burden of balancing into other fun elements.
All I had to do was craft them a new set of gear, and I was done! Yay.
