My Take on Smallland: Survive the Wilds
Small land has been on my wishlist for a while and I was so excited when it finally dropped an early access. I absolutely loved the Borrowers when I was a kid and anything related to being able to play tiny people while making friends with adorable insects is a huge win! I've enjoyed exploring the game so far and I'm taking my time poking around at everything.

I haven't read other people's suggestions, so my apologies if things end up repeated! I also may add to the post when random thoughts present themselves.

I LOVE the creepy swamp area with an eerie reminder of just how tiny our characters are. I don't quite get the sense of being small while playing though.
I adore the lady bugs, grasshoppers, waterlilies, toads and cattails.

Suggestions

Insects:
I would love to see more realism with the insects.

Insects wander and rarely keep still, because they are prey. They should be scurrying to hide during storms and many would die in the winter. Perhaps there could be a duration of hibernation during winter while also seeing plants dying off? I think insects hiding and plants dying off would create a sense of urgency when collecting food and resources before winter hits.

Many insects aren't aggressive, unless provoked. I think it would be a good idea to reconsider how certain insects interact with each other and with Players.

Weather and Night/Day:
Not much to suggest here, other than the desire to have weather settings to prolong the seasons as well as the length of night and day.

NPCS:
I love the little NPC camps and think it could be useful if all of them were properly sheltered with each camp hosting a little bed to snooze in. It might also be cool if the camps had a repair station.

Some Issues That Need Fixin'

I lost all my gear and harvested items that took me way too long to get. I froze to death on the lift and the gravestone is now trapped mid-air! It would be useful to have a gravestone retrieval option for situations like this. The gravestone could be transported to the starting zone, or to the respawn bed.

The animations for the spiders, when they are fighting, are a bit wonky. Definitely makes me laugh and it distracts from the scariness of being attacked by a spider when their legs are flailing all over the place. hehe

-------

I look forward to the game becoming rich with lore and beautiful customization for building, armor, and appearances. I hope the developers continue to work on it with all the love and attention that it deserves.

i really like your idea. how did you make the alternate coloring. very well made post.

as to some of your suggestions they have stated in the roadmap they intend to add that functionality regarding temperature and how some resources wont be available at different parts of the year.

id want my seasons in game to be restricted to a real-time calendar and day/night schedule. having an option to allow for this is my top priority once modding becomes a thing, official or unofficial.

i also saw the Borrowers as a kid... most of the time when visiting my grandma. if you ever saw "Willow" the "Brownies" are also pretty similar.

Hi! I also loved those goofy little mischievous brownies in Willow! Thank you for pointing out the roadmap. I can follow along with the plans! :steamhappy:

The color changes are part of formatting and are a header. There's a formatting helper, when preparing a post, that shows basic BBCode.

thank you for sharing about the formatting system, i wasn't aware it was available for average clients. i look forward to learning how to make use of them in the future.
