Alternatively you could easily check out youtube videos and other sources to see how the game plays and what story elements are involved. Not story heavy but there is a story involved with some objectives that help drive the story along. Not RPG style, doesn't have that level of hand-holding. You'll have to work a bit, like any survival game.
That's fine; don't buy it.
You didn't buy the game and you want to have a say in its direction?
Pull the other one, it's got bells on.
Oh i already checked it on YouTube and clearly watched the video playing in Steam.
For me personaly the genre is just exhausted, after all the zombie games like 7days to die or the medival survival games. This one is just another one with a different theme.
With potential i mean the idea of Smalland. Its a nice idea to make a world evolving around small humanoid livings that try to survive in the wilderness. But a new idea on the base of a survival game feels so not satisfying, at least for me, because a survival game kinda cant grab the whole essense of the new concept, its too limited on the standard blueprint of survival games which is simple and doesnt evolve much over time.
So i hoped for a new generation survival game, something new and unique. With new ideas adding fresh air to the genre which is basicaly not moving an inch since it got created.
So a tight story driven survival gamea bit like "State of decay" is a unique change in the usualy static genre. And a fairy world like Smalland basicaly invited to put a good story into it aside the survival concept. Full towns, npcs with quests and likewise do not opose the concept of a survival game.
Think about it like this, there is many towns in Smalland, but you and your friends are destinied to uncover new land and make the path for exploration and colonialise the wilderness, while accepting quests in the town you started from, like collecting special resources, kill unbelivable never seen beasts (insects) and report back about your new discoveries, while you do that you wander the new land, build setlements, fights for your survival out there, even involving native other species (as i saw in some videos there are some kind of evil humanoid like enemys) you can find some to trade with or start a fight against them, maybe even raise reputation among them for better resources you can gain from them.
At least that is something i would enjoy seeing in a survival game as a concept.
Bu thats me, so that is why my question, just another survival game? Start naked, cut trees, build things to get better things, kill enemys for nearly no reason except them attacking you?
Darn you are clearly a man of a attitude, instead of being friendly to make it maybe enjoyable for people to chat with you and maybe see you site of the things, you instantly bash me for not having bought the game and want to have a say in it. How did i even say that i want a say in it? Its merely a question asked. My choice of buying it or not is still up to me, and this choice is based on the content of the game and its direction its heading toward. If i want to play a regular Surival Game that offers me nothing new, well then i can play those i already bought, which are some.
So i need a reason to buy Smalland, a new experience, a new concept, if i just do whatever i did in all the other survival games, well that concept for me personaly is already boring and outdated. Just becouse it plays in a different scenery it is not an inovative thing.
I like the idea of flying and flying on birds as a sample, thats a new concept not much survival games offer, most only offer ground bound vehicles. So this is a concept making the game interesting. But that is not enough to let me make my decission yet.
I hope you enjoy it, it really looks nice.
Then move on, if you don't like it you don't need to crap on it when others disagree with you. Just go do something else. Easy. Later.
In that regard, no it's not like all other survival games.
There is a plot, an overarching plot. it's very thin so far, but it's there.
The queen of the smallfolk is sick. It looks more and more like she was poisoned. The smallfolk have previously lived mostly underground since the giants (humans) got wiped out.
The smallfolk have a magic cure-all potion, invented by a famous apothecary. They go to get it, and find the chest it's kept in is locked, the key is missing. The apothecary is missing.
The player is one of the "Vanguard", which are people trained in how to survive in the world above. We're all sent on a mission to find the missing key before the queen dies.
So far, a bunch of story elements have been introduced. The insects and animal life above are becoming more and more aggressive lately, Clues point to a green liquid (possibly chemicals leftover since humankind died out) found all over the place. they key for the locked chest is found chained to a godzilla sized beetle, which points to some intelligent agency doing that . There is also a small murder mystery found too a dead smallfolk body with a unique 3 pronged spear poisoned spear stuck in it .
The Forbidden Monuments update also introduced another puzzle piece: a hostile race of smallfolk, who've been living on the surface the whole time. They hate the player's race of smallfolk, and they attack on site. They're also armed with 3 pronged poison spears too, so apparently they're responsible for the dead body found earlier
We don't know where the rest of the story goes from here, because it's not done. Many of use are curious to find out where the story evolves from here.
I can think of one, but it's an old game that shut down, and then came back from the dead. Fallen earth it was called. The game has massive flaws, in the game engine, that sort of make it unplayable.
But it was a full on MMO experience, quests, etc. Set in a post apocalyptic mad max like setting. Had an insane crafting system. You could craft _vehicles_, all the way up to a max max like interceptor. Motorcycles, atvs, guns, armor, etc. It was nuts. Generally stuff you crafted was better then quest rewards at most stages. The game has an old school mmo curve, so any gear you got from a quest you outgrew 5 seconds later. Crafting was the only way to stay at the top of the curve powerwise.
prepare to fight in pointless, inventory-bloating combat that wastes about 60% of your entire activity. Night, day, no matter where you base, you will get ants, nocturnal grasshopers, useless beetles, and the rest.
if you like being constantly harassed, with little gain, with a grid of mobs that will always be there no matter how many you clear out, this game is for YOU!
people like you are problematic and slowly the world is catching on to you. .... even on steam, slow as they are to learn. People who defend a product are the problem.
An interesting take... you do realize you're telling someone who has paid for the game that they're not allowed to criticize someone who hasn't paid for the game, but is talking smack about it?
That little mouse icon next to some people's names shows ownership of the game the forum thread is in; Subsonic owns the game, Harleskin GER/SLO does not.
Perhaps you should back up and re-evaluate your position before jumping down someone's throat?
Not having a stack size mod available to fix the excessive inventory control that I can't stand is different from other games. Dying from falling in water and having to start over at my spawn spot is aggravating and different from other survival games. The ridiculous whiting out the screen feature to highlight pickups is annoying. These are MY problems with the game so far.
Having listed the aggravations so far I keep starting the game again due to there is something special about this game.
I highly recommend getting it now while it is on sale and at least trying it.
There are enough good differences from other games that make this game a worthwhile ride and there is more to come.
So you're attacking me personally for what--suggesting the dude move on if the game's not his cup of tea? As noted, he hasn't even paid for it or played it. He's crapping on a game with no experience with it. Yeah, the opinion has no credibility for one, and if it doesn't seem to be something they like then why bother ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on it with no in-game experience?
And you call ME the problem? Check yourself at the door man, you sound a little peculiar.
