Interact with the forge, and there's an option to examine the forge, then another option to examine weapons in the process of being made. Examining the weapons unlocks three things you can simply build in any normal forge anywhere. Aetherian hammer (1 hand blunt), Aetherian Greataxe (2 handed edged), and icarus arrows (pyrite and refined wood arrows with 7 base damage).
And before you ask, no, you can't actually use their forge to build weapons. You'll either have to build one in the Forbidden Monuments, or go back to the main map and summon your tree base.
The forge is inside an Aetherian base, usually 2-3 scouts (skinny w/spear, chubby scout), and 1 elite.
The elite is a bad mofo who's actually armed with an Aetherian axe. When you get hit by that thing, you will understand how good it is. It can do a 3 hit combo _insanely_ quick . Be aware. He will mess you up. The elite is a good source of Hoots coins btw. Usually 10+ every kill. You need 500 for the blue tit bird mount. I've made 150 just killing Aetherians (and most of that was from the elites).
