I mean there was a really tiny, shallow water pool a heck of a ways up that I barely saw while jumping across some branches but I have no idea why the spider would have climbed up there and into that water, let alone how it would drown from it (there were even flies hanging out on a rock/chunk of debris in the middle of it). When I first realized the spider wasn't following me anymore/its name vanished from the funny new "party"-like grouping just above your health/hunger/etc bars I honestly thought it had just clipped into the terrain (because it's done that a few times; not often, but enough to make me figure it just tried to path somewhere it thought it could go due to its whole "can stick to much steeper surfaces" schtick) and then somehow fallen out of the map by letting go of whatever it was sticking to.
This was partially because, due to the river incident -- among other water-related interactions -- I had assumed the AI naturally avoided water when trying to find a path to follow you and such. In hindsight, however, if it had actually fallen out of the map, then in theory it would have just... teleported to me after falling a certain short distance, no? So maybe it somehow DID manage to drown in that tiny pool that was nowhere near me :/ Especially if tames running into water is a common complaint.
I think I'll stick to airborne tames for now... They seem to be immune to this (the damselfly is super annoying, though... It doesn't stop making noise and flitting around out of reach >:T)

this guide i made will show you how to DUPE your pets.
basically by backing up a saved world with a pet left inside it.
and copying the backup over the original after getting the pet back.
But given its potential as a standalone discussion I put it here:

Suffice to say, my earlier comment was not correct. Assuming my testing is representative of all creature types it would be more accurate to say tames of any particular species and level are not particularly fragile when compared to wild creatures of the same species. They just aren't as effective at dealing damage as the wild creatures.
