Most of the comments on this thread seem very mean and combative to me. Yes, some people are that afraid of spiders! Yes, even when it’s a game and no ‘real’ threat! My fight or flight (or freeze) response doesn’t know that 🤷🏻♀️
Just, like, maybe be kind to people?
are spiders the main thing in the game? or a small part of the big thing? IT is a movie CLEARLY about a killer clown so no removing clowns wouldn't make sense. Every war game's main focus is on war so of course people with PTSD would avoid them too. Not every game is focused on spiders. A Bug's Life is a film about insects and there's maybe like 3 spiders at most in it, so clearly A Bug's Life, a film about insects as good AND bad guys, rarely has spiders in it. So even in a film about insects spiders aren't automatically a big focus and I'm sure people don't even remember more than 1 spider character in that film, so that film could have replaced those spiders with other bug characters and nothing of value would have been lost from it (this is a silly example just to make a point because I know some idiot will take this seriously and try to argue from the main point).
Point is this game's focus is on INSECTS as a whole, not specifically spiders, and so the addition/removal of spiders doesn't change the entire point/dynamic of this game. So it's not really a big deal for those who are afraid of spiders to ask for an option to remove/replace them. What IS weird is all the antis getting into a temper tantrum over some people asking for options. I don't understand your obsession with spiders and how you love them so much that this thread almost popped a blood vessel in you and every other poster that it seems to have ruined your day. What is it about spiders that you are obsessed with that you do mental gymnastics to argue against it, using faulty logic no less?
Also with your logic why aren't you fighting for other insects to be included? you seem to make the point that the game is about insects, as if all insects should be a part of it, but are all insects in the game? are there moths? centipedes? millipedes? butterflies? cockroaches? pillbugs? ladybugs? stag beetles? herculean beetles? praying mantis? orchid mantis? not every insect is in the game, but seems you and others are obsessed with specifically spiders so I'm confused as to why the removal of spiders would ruin the game for you when there's hundreds of other insects that aren't in the game that could replace them anyways.
Yeah you didn't contribute much either. What I'm saying is we're both guilty, but you think you're better than others. Get over yourself.
I mentioned random insects to prove a point but clearly now you're going to make me look up which insects are specifically not in the game because it seems you can't function correctly and attack the argument itself which is sad.
Also seeing your pfp I can make the argument that you're not arguing in good faith either, and you have some odd obsession with spiders which is why you're fighting tooth and nail against my point as if this was some serious discussion that has potential to ruin your favorite game.
Except I did, as someone with arachnophobia who is telling the devs this mode they added is bad and why, but you can't see that because you're too busy crying about me somehow acting better than others when I'm not. Maybe develop a thicker skin and don't get so offended that I criticized your favorite game in the world.
Hopefully they change it's face along with the legs if a lot of people find that scary but I don't think being mean and abrasive helps the cause at all. I asked for a single player pause feature since it's very much needed due to how my life is. But I've not yelled at anyone or called them names for it not being a feature yet.
same thing almost. i become paralyzed if i see an actual snake, if i see one in a game i just say to myself "lazy ass dev".
Apiphobia – The fear of bees. Better make a slider for that as well.
Aquaphobia – The fear of water. Better make a slider for that as well.
Astraphobia – The fear of thunder/lightning better make it so you can remove the thunder sound.
Agoraphobia – The fear of open or crowded spaces. How do you even make a slider for this.
Allodoxaphobia – The fear of opinions. You might want to check to see if you have this.
Atychiphobia – The fear of failure. They have a peaceful mode no worries for this.
Basiphobia – The fear of falling. Better make a mode where you don't fall.
Bathophobia – The fear of depths can be anything associated with depth (lakes, tunnels, caves). Better remove all those little caves in the game mode.
Cibophobia – The fear of food. Need to make a mode that doesn't require eating.
Entomophobia – The fear of bugs and insects well you only care about Acrophobia so we can tell these people to find another game?
Ergophobia – The fear of work. Wheres m sandbox mode?
Gamophobia – The fear of commitment or sticking with someone to the end. Single player for the win.
Koumpounophobia – The fear of buttons. They probably don't play games so no worries.
Lepidopterophobia – The fear of butterflies and often most winged insects. We can't leave these people out it wouldn't be right.
Monophobia – The fear of being alone. Multiplayer for the win.
Myrmecophobia – The fear of ants. Don't know why these people don't chime into the discussion.
Nyctophobia – The fear of darkness.
Ombrophobia – The fear of rain.
Somniphobia – The fear of sleep.
Thanatophobia – The fear of death.
I don't think you will get the point I am trying to make but you really can't build every game around people with phobias. Spiders are ugly and some of them can kill you, everyone should be afraid of spiders to some degree. It's part of human instinct for a reason. Plus I think a lot of people running around saying they are arachnophobic but not a lot of people want to be hanging out or being near spiders in reality.
I dont either. I only ever insulted or called names people who are being purposely dismissive or making fun of people for having the phobia. I expressed anger at the devs because their version of it felt like an insult, and then another poster implies that the devs were making a joke, which if they were then that's pretty rude and insulting to those with phobias who just wanted an option.
@Lfod
Your mistake is being extremely dismissive and almost insulting in your response. People afraid of bees I wouldn't be mad if the devs made a mode for them either because it doesn't personally affect me. The game doesn't somehow get worse because an option I don't use is being used by someone else.
Some of those random phobias are you speaking from ignorance too, like fear of food so your solution is no eating which doesn't eliminate the fear of food existing or whatever the underlying reason for being afraid of food is, which may not even be about the food itself so showing in a game might not even be an issue for that type of person.
Also it addresses the biggest issue I have with antis using your argument. How many threads are there of phobic people asking for changes in the game other than spiders? NOBODY from that big list of phobias is making threads asking for options in the game so why bring them up? Its not as it arachnophobia is legally preventing people from posting about their phobias until the spider conflict is resolved. Those people can post here if they want but they dont because those phobias aren't as black and white as you're making them out to be. There's a spectrum of ways these phobias affect people but you're not caring about those specifics because you want to make a flawd point.
Exactly. Like I can deal with most spiders in fantasy games like Skyrim and such but when they're too realistic its too much. Hogwarts Legacy is a perfect example where 99% of spiders in that game dont bother me, but the Absconder/Acromantula bothers me because it looks realistic.
