Tips & Tricks for this game
Hello everybody! So, I've been playing this game for about some months, and I've reached lvl 41.

Overall it's a nice, captivating game and fun to play for all ages! It's really easy to play, and it requires little to no money to advance.
So, during this time, I encountered some game mechanics that are "hidden" (meaning they are not told in the tutorial) and will help you progress faster in the game.
So, here are some tips I have to suggest. Feel free to add yours or correct mine below! :)

Notice that I personally haven't spent any money on gems, which of course would make the game much easier, but that's a matter of personal perspective. So the tips below are mainly focused on players who don't spend real money on diamonds, or spend too little.

1. Focus on breeding
Selling puppies and kittens is much much more profitable than selling any other stuff for animals from the shelves. I don't say don't put any shelves at all, because the shelves stuff are a steady income for when you're offline, but we'll get to that later.
Try to upgrade the nursery early on, untill the level where the next upgrade requires diamonds (which is until the 8th slot opens). This way you'll be able to start many breedings at once, saving you precious time from waiting.

2. Maximize the breeding chances
This is definitely in relevance with the previous tip, since every 4 levels, the nursery gives you +5% breeding chances for all the breedings. In addition, try to add hideouts and pools to your pens, which also add 10% and 5% respectively to the breeding chances of this particular animal placed in the pen. By maximizing the breeding chances, you don't make it more possible that one breeding will produce multiple babies, but you make it less and less possible for a breeding to fail. Also crucial in relevance to time saving. Notice though that as more expensive the pens (eg. Artificial turf pens and Scratching post pens) the more likely that the hideouts and the pools will cost diamonds. So apart from aesthetic reasons, buying more expensive pens is totally not worth it. Which gets us to the next tip:

3. Manage your pens
Every pen can fit up to 10 animals. (Correct me if I'm wrong here, but as far as I've seen, you can't have more than 10 animals -of the same breed of course- in a pen) Which means, that a long pen has no place for anything more (such as food bowls or water bowls). A medium pen though may fit all 10 animals, with an addition of both bowls, playing equipment, and a hideout OR a pool. If you want to add all three "big items" (pool, hideout, playing equipment) you will need a bigger pen, or just to expand the medium one 2 times. Again, it's always a matter of play style and aesthetics, but I'm just making suggestions.

4. -IMPORTANT- Always lock your animals
Not all of them of course, but you definitely have to lock the two adults sitting on the pen, so that you don't sell them by accident and out of carelessness, and end up gathering pieces or a lot of in game money to buy them again. I personally like to lock one more baby, just in case.

5. -IMPORTANT- Make adults
Puppies and kittens are generally more likely to be sold in real life (which in many cases is cruel, but that's a whole other topic) but in this game, the demand for young animals and adults is pretty much the same. Which ONLY happens when you have adult animals AVAILABLE at your store. Which means, always try to let one baby grow to an adult. When you sell it, grow another, so that you constantly have an adult available for sale. So in general, although the demand for adults and babies is the same, the price of an adult is much much higher than that of a baby. In some cases even 10 times higher!. I feel lucky that I realised that early on the game. Since I started making adults, my store boomed! Try it out, if you haven't already.

6. Time is relevant
Time spent in-game is much more worthy than time spent offline. Meaning: Shelf items are being sold faster, and most important, customer request keep on coming. When offline, the shelves are producing money on a standard, slower time and customer requests for animals generally do not increase above +1 or +2 since the last time you left the game. My suggestion: When you've finished and you want to close the game, keep it open for about 30 min more. This way, the next time you open it, you'll already have a lot of requests and won't need to wait until the customers arrive.

7. Use the pieces
The game gives you the opportunity to gather pieces of various items and animals so that you can redeem them without spending any money or diamonds. Use this feature, make friends, help them every day, and as the time passes, you might gather rare animal pieces which you can redeem and put them in your store!
(Bonus tip: When being on a friends' store, clicking on the "x chores left" on the bottom right corner, shifts the camera right over the next chore, saving you from the effort of searching every corner of multi floor stores. I'm sad I realised that really late)

8. Do reasonable trading
When trading pieces, have in mind that you are trading with other people from across the earth, who also play mostly like you. So don't offer Apple Tree pieces while requesting a Chondsky Pes! Noone is going to accept that!

9. Production is everything
As like state economies, having a strong and powerful production ensures that the economy is strong and growing. Don't underestimate your basement. When possible, build two or even three production centers, unlock the second production slot, and start producing! Try to always have full shelves, in case you're gone for a weekend, so that no profit will be lost. As for upgrading the wares, it's generally worth it, but not a neccessity for early game. So just stick with lvl 1 stuff, untill you have pet cash to spend.

-----
So these were my tips as far as this game is concerned! As I said before, feel free to comment them, agree, disagree, or add your own tips based on your experience, so that every new -and not only- player, may enjoy this beautiful game! :)

I expand the medium pens once, they fit the bowls, playing equipment, hideout, pool and 10 two-space-animals. They are a bit tricky to place though, if you want to rearrange your store.
Large pens fit all the stuff and three-space-animals :)
