I know it's an oooold post, but I recently ran into the problem of Dakar 18 freezing to a black screen on startup and searched the forum for solutions.

I tried the other solution which indicated to add a command line or a system variable but that didn't solve the issue.

But deleting all controller configs in the mentioned folder actually solved the problem.

I think my issue was triggered when I had connected my Thrustmaster TCA Sidestick with the intention to try it with Dakar 18. After that, the game wouldn't lauch correctly until I deleted all Thrustmaster controller configs for the game.

Now I am using a Microsoft Elite 2 Gamepad, which works like a charme with the game.
