Devs already said they're working on an physics update but I wouldn't be so confident..
I just googled "atv game" and even Fortnite does this better. They also do the delay reaction to steering. In Dakar when there is steering input, then the quad seems to turn instantly to a new rotation, which destroys the impression od driving dynamics and makes it look like a mobile game. Best driving camera in 3rd person is Forza Horizon 4. When you brake the camera pitch goes down a bit and then levels out again, if you do turns then the camera roll changes a bit and so on. The camera needs to reflect the driving forces/dynamics better in Dakar 18. I actually think the camera is not influenced at all by the driving dynamics and is just static, which gives the mobile phone game impression. They completely f*cked this up.
Another example of camera-driving dynamics: Hitting ground after huge jump! In Dakar 18 the camera does nothing. In Forza Horizon 4 the camera shakes. Bigmoon really should have focussed more on the driving physics/dynamics. It is was keeps me from buying yet.
-rear brake acting like handbrake. Once you press it bike starts to slide.
-the bike can fly high in the air and despite hard fall it doesnt fall
-hitting at fast speed a big rock, other object or going into deep sand does not fall the bike
-weird animation when bike stucks in mud/sand. It starts to shake like crazy
-no possibility to make a wheelie/stoppie or fly over the handlebar
-no lowsides or highsides
-bikes are superstable on very high speeds
And smaller details like:
-after the fall, bike goes upright by itself
-no countersteering animation. On higher speeds the handlebar moves towards the turn
-no helmet cam. The one is in game is tank cam which has too much lean angle
-unrealistic rider animation when turning the bike.
I think the rider animation is not a small details. They look like tin soldiers on bikes/quads. This will always break immersion, no matter what.
Heck, can you believe it? There is Dakar 18, perfectly simulating the rally raid aspect with damage and all, but I play f*cking Forza Horizon 4 with stupid wheelspins and basically Fortnite with Cars because they did one thing right there despite all the "generation Fortnite" nonsense: the driving!
Anyway I play Dakar 18 because its different, it has motorcycles, it has amazing atmosphere its hard to navigate and learn navigation...
I don't have time to play car games... my love are motorcycles and all I miss in this fantastic game is proper bike physics :-)
Like here between 7:05min...7:20min. All the sudden movements of the bike and the tin solder riding it, this is like the most basic gameplay/physics coding. It does not get cheaper, and they claim to have realistic physics on the store page. And on top you have the camera that does not react to the riding dynamics at all.

MXBikes: Tin soldiers on bikes! Not sure why they stop simulating at the rider. He looks stiff like a muppet. Unrealistic rider movement (or absence of it) totally kills it for me.
Maybe you have played. the bike is controlled by leaning it, it does not follow where front wheel is pointing but where the bike is leaned.
I think that coding motorcycle
Somehow, the game really falls short with animations. Same with walking and running. They could have just bought really good animations from the Unreal Engine Marketplace. They are there in abundance. Everything is better than those 1990s animations. A video game magazine called them animations like in Tombraider - the one from 1996. Sadly I agree.
Man, I was so looking forward to this game. But I had a bad feeling when everything on show was pre-rendered CGI and zero gameplay. Then they said like 1 month before release that they still tune gameplay. So all this was kind of no surprise. But still, man, I want this game. But not with that driving/walking/physics. Gameplay first. See for example Pure Rock Crawling. A one-man indie show. Same amount of reviews (~sales) as Dakar 18.
