Important news from the BigMoon Discord server

Dear DAKAR 18 fans,
We would like to thank you all for your patience during this hiatus and offer you our apologies.

Unfortunately, despite Bigmoon's effort to make the 1st Rally Raid video game (DAKAR 18) a success, we assume that with our previous partner that goal was not achieved.
That's why we were forced to invest some additional time to look for a new partner, that had the experience and the know-how to achieve our initial goal.

Due to ongoing negotiations with our new partner and with A.S.O. we had to temporarily halt our new DAKAR video game development.

During this time, our team has then been given attention to finish one of our previous projects (“Police Simulator: Patrol Duty”), released last June 18th.

However, we are proud to announce that the negotiations are coming to a close and we will disclose soon, our new partner, the new features and the Road Map for the next “DAKAR” videogame.

This comes from the big bossman himself, what i understood from this post and some further talking BigMoon has had some serious trouble. Here's a little summary from what i understood

1. Their silence came from deep legal "poopoo" they were involved in, anything they could have said could also be used to make things worse. I don't know what happened but i think "anything you say can and will be used against you in court of law" feels applicable.
   
2. The distributor (which i think was Deep Silver) has abandoned BigMoon and given them trouble. Making them stop working on the game so they can settle things.
   
3. "Regarding to the current video game additional DLC's, we are analysing that with our legal department and we are not sure yet.
   Why? Because we will not proceed with more content with our previous distributor partner. We will start a new era with a new partner." << This means they are trying, but cannot confirm future DLC for Dakar 18 (because of the second point)
   
4. The license for future Dakar games and enthusiasm of the A.S.O. is safe, they are quite happy with BigMoon despite what happened in the early days.
   
5. Dakar 2019 will begin development soon but will most likely not be launched in 2019 (due to time pressure, so they WILL take their time to make it proper this time)
   
6. More news will come soon after BigMoon seals the deal with all parties involved.

I'm eager to see what news they will bring out when everything is all fine again. They had a rock solid base, and at some point (before the leaderboards) it felt great. I am pretty sure the entire team feels bad about whatever happened there as they were pulled off their loveproject.

Thanks for the news, even if I had prefered "Dakar 18 Competitor DLC coming in 2 weeks and Dakar 19 in october".
But will there be any bugfix updates for Dakar 18, e.g. leaderboards in quick game for stages with neutralization or Treasure Hunt achievements not unlocking?

I'm not sure, what Paulo mentioned in the discord is that his legal team is looking into what they can still do with Dakar 18 because of the troubles with their old partner.
The source and everything is still theirs, but as i understood anything they want to update needs to go through them. So i assume it's kind of like... needing to use the help of your bad ex-girlfriend / boyfriend just to get something from the store.

bigmoon hasnt made a tweet since jan 14 for any products. last facebook was 2 days later. Kinda sounds like they are bankrupt which would mean everything is up in the air. I would think it would be faster to just go ahead and make a new one then wait for a bankruptcy to run its course.

edit: They have a couple job openings still listed so who knows. Sometimes those never get updated. The community manager/communication position is filled on there so the radio silence is odd.

They released another game about one month ago. Very bugged, but no update for Police Simulator so far.

Much better compared to the state at release. If you like endurance racing, you should have fun :)

I can tell they are not bankrupt at least, but just being busy to get some money in to avoid it. That's why they finished police simulator. All this legal business and negotiations sounds like it takes up a lot of time and resources though, let's just hope the new partner will bring them mountains of gold!

But silence and no updates (especially for Police Simualtor) kills trust and scares players off.
