-Click on the the processes tab at the top of the WTM window
-Scroll through the running processes until you see bioshock.exe
-Click on bioshock.exe
-Click on end process at the bottom of the WTM window
Now try to relaunch Bioshock.
When I try this, the bioshock.exe pops up for half a second under processes and then goes away before I even do anything else.
I was getting the Crashes all the time, example Small logo Starting then Crash & I couldn't even get into the game Menu.
To Fix Create a shortcut from the following location:
\Steam\SteamApps\common\Bioshock\Builds\Release\Bioshock.exe
Then all I did was change the Compatibility Mode to Vista Service Pack 2.
How to:
Right Mouse Click on Shortcut Created
In Popup Choose the "Properties"
Now go to the Compatibility TAB
Tick the Box (Run this program in compatibility mode for:)
Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)
My Test was it saved my Game Progress & also saved my settings Configuration.
NOTE:
Running the Game from the Steam GUI or even Creating a Shortcut from the Steam GUI it will Crash again & you will loose your Configuration Settings but apparently keeping your Saves.
I tested this on my Retail Version of the game as well & it did the same thing & the same thing is required to fix it.
My System Specs are:
Windows 7 x64 SP1
Nvidia GTX580 Non Sli
8GB Ram
Intel i7 2700k
Hope it helps out.
I found a similar fix but I ended up setting compatibility to Windows 7 (it was on XP sp3 by default) Also I had to enable Stero Mix in Control Panel..
At the risk of redundancy I'll just post what worked for me...
Go to Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Manage Audio Devices, and select the Recording tab.
Next, right click the empty space below the installed devices and check Show Disabled Devices.
The Stereo Mix should appear. Right click on the icon and enable it. Then, click on OK to close the window and then close the Control Panel.
Next, locate the bioshock.exe file. Mine is located here: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\bioshock\Builds\Relea se\Bioshock.exe".
Right click on it and select Properties. Select the Compatibility tab and and check "Run this program in compatibility mode Windows 7".
Worked for me but from what I've seen different compatibility settings work for different people regardless of their system specs...
