Can't beat a Big Daddy

Yea, that's right. I've encountered my fourth BD (on the wharf) and I can't beat it. I've tried three times now and every time I die at least four times, and completely run out of ammor, EVE and health kits. And he still has about one quater of his life left. And this in only on normal difficulty. I run the recomended strategy of electro shock and shoot, but I can't kill it before running out of ammo.

Every encounter so far with a BD has left me almost completely void of everything. Feels like a true Phyrrus victory. Is this how it's supposed to be?

I suggest taking photos of those Big Daddies for the extra damage against them and using anything that has electricity like the electric ammo for the shotgun.

Because you still haven't got that far yet, I'm afraid you have to keep using the Electro shock + shotgun combination until you can find a better weapon.

I normally shock and use a shotgun over and over, eve and first aid is so cheap and they are normally near a vending machine anyway which are easy to hack.

Hit and run with kinesis and explosies, bounce his mine back at him, and if you can look for a crawlspace to crawl into where he can't reach you. I'd recommend getting the grenade launcher from Wilkins. Also run at him immediately after you get out of the vita chamber because he heals. Good luck I've been doing this on my survivor difficulty and it's never fely like that. Save before you engage and judge whether you could've done better.

Big Daddies are vulnerable to armour piercing rounds though.

I've done that, but I'm all out of ammo and EVE before he dies.

TBH, I really don't see that much difference in damage. I have AP bullets but as I said before, all my ammo is gone before he dies.

There's also taking pictures of him, it'll increase the damage you do as it researches enemies, you do take pictures right?

Or if there are any bots nearby get them to shoot at the Big Daddy as he goes past them, I almost killed one doing that alone.

Trick is to get it to shoot at you as he walks past and it'll start shooting at him only and he don't come after you at all.

I played more than 100 hours with BioShock, last few times on Hard and feels easy to kill a Big Daddy. However I can't remember my first playthrough, but I think they feeled indestructible. BDs are vulnarable to armor-piercing bullets, eletrictiy and anything what hurts them.
I also recommend loot everything, hack what you can, use everything in your enviromental in BioShock.

Exactly. Once you get insect swarm and electric shock three it's less of a hassle. A good tip is to lure them into water, shock 'em and then insect swarm. Once the BD is pretty trapped heat seeking rocket him. It does the best because the frags can miss.

I have to says heat seeking missiles can miss too. I know, It happened me. :D But the bees stun him, easy target, also doesn't like electricity and AP bullets. Electric Gel is deadly or electric bucks with the shotgun 2-3 clip kill him even on Hard!
