Why are there no achievements for this game?
The had it on the 360 and PS3, so why not on Steam?

almost all consule games have acheivments not to many steam games do though
Taiju Jan 14, 2013 @ 6:32pm
I know that. But most console games that get ported to Steam have the achievements.

I think the game came out before Steam had achievements, or at least, they weren't as widespread then as they are now.

Bioshock 2 came out much later and doesn't have Steam achievements even when it has them in games For Windows Live.

Why do you need them?
Taiju Jan 19, 2013 @ 5:35am
I don't technically NEED them, I'm just wondering why they're not in the game, but they were in the PS3 and 360 versions.

Steam Achievements were introduced with L4D2 in 2008 when i remember right...So when Bioshock 1 came out, Steam doesnt have achievements.

As written above by Dexter, Bioshock 2 used Games for Windows Live, and had there achievements. Most PC games have achievements just on one plattform (GFWL or Steam or Uplay or ...)

Maybe the new Bioshock Infinite got Steam Achivements, i dont know if it still uses GFWL...

I'm pretty sure achievements appeared with the Orange Box in 2007.
EDIT: yep http://www.giantbomb.com/steam-achievements/92-3280/
Steam achievements system was introduced with the launch of The Orange Box late in 2007

However, updating a game in Steam is 100% free as opposite to Xbox 360 or PS3. AND Bioshock 2 used GFWL achievements and not Steam achievements, which clearly means the devs didn't care.

At least with Bioshock 3 they seem to be fixing that error since they announces it'll be a full SteamWorks title (cloud, achievements, etc).

Thanks for clearing that up. It still sucks that they didn't care enough to even put in an update that could add achievements (how hard could that be, right?) But I'll live with it. I guess I'm just used to having every game that comes out to have achievements now, that's all.

Although BS1 had all the structure there ready for multiplayer, network aspects were never fully completed and since it was released therefore a fully offline game, there was no real reason to add such 'community'-related feature concepts as achievements.

As to why it was never then patched to include the achievements, the multiplay aspect was properly finalised for BS2 which also included the achievements as per GFWL - Not unlike L4D2 - L4D2, the sequel generally outmoded the original game, despite being essentially a (admittedly good quality) modification to the original game with the same engine at its heart.
