Dropping items- Xbox controller

Hi there,

I've just got the (slight spoiler?) Telekinesis plasmid and I was wondering how to drop an item, rather than throwing it, with an Xbox controller? The game says to press X while holding it but that just makes me use an EVE hypo. I saw some people suggesting switching to another plasmid while holding the item, but I end up throwing it and THEN the switching menu comes up. Does anyone know how I can just put an item down lightly?

Try switching to a weapon with the right bumper.

It just throws whatever I'm holding in the second before the weapon wheel comes up.

I relize this is 3 years late but if you're near your keyboard you can click the hack button (The Default is V) and that'll drop it.

Well, better late than never I suppose. I don't even remember if/how I solved this.
