Need help with game breaking bug while becoming big daddy

I guess I got the boots before the game wanted me to. I've been clomping around in them ever since I found them in the library. After I picked up the voice and last piece of armor it said "now you have to find the boots." But, I ALREADY HAVE THE BOOTS! I tried banging on the little sister portal with the wrench just in case, but that didn't work. The boots are not in the library anymore and of course I can hear them on my feet. I've tried everything but I've gone too far and saved a bunch of times.

Does anyone know how to hex edit stage objectives? I tried downloading a save game file but it sucks big time compared to mine. I've seen this problem posted online a few times but there are no solutions.

Or does anyone know how to edit the UI to generate a new pair of glowing boots for the objective?

Nevermind. It wasn't game breaking, the game was just confused. It said I needed the boots as the last item but what it meant was that I needed the helmet! (You can see I'm not wearing it in my screenshots.) I found the helmet and everything was good.
